A case hardening process in which a suitable ferrous material is heated above the lower transformation temperature in a gaseous atmosphere of such composition as to cause simultaneous absorption of carbon and nitrogen by the surface and, by diffusion, create a concentration gradient. 1, record 1, English, - carbonitriding

Some materials can react vigorously with water to rapidly produce gases which are deadly at low airborne concentrations. For example, sodium or potassium phosphide release phosphine gas when they contact water. Alkali metal cyanide salts, such as sodium or potassium cyanide, slowly release deadly hydrogen cyanide gas on contact with water. 2, record 2, English, - cyanide%20gas
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 2 CONT
A respondent described the application of bioleaching in the mining industry and noted some of the cost issues and environmental precautions.... For low-grade refractory gold ores, the technology involves bacterial breakdown of arsenopyrite ore to expose the gold followed by cyaniding for extraction purposes. A major environmental health issue here revolves on the control of acidity in the ore pile to eliminate the production of cyanide gas. 3, record 2, English, - cyanide%20gas

3, record 2, French, - cyanure%20gazeux

Liquid nitriding(nitriding in a molten salt bath) employs the same temperature range as gas nitriding-that is, 950 ° to 1050 ° F. As in liquid carburizing and cyaniding, the case hardening medium is molten cyanide. Unlike liquid carburizing and cyaniding, however, liquid nitriding is done below, instead of above, the transformation temperature range of the steel being treated. Also, liquid nitriding adds more nitrogen and less carbon to the steel than do cyaniding and carburizing in cyanide baths. 1, record 3, English, - liquid%20nitriding
