Record number: 6, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The oxygen sensor(also known as an O2 sensor, lambda sensor, or EGO sensor) is one of the most critical sensors on a fuel-injected engine. It resembles a spark plug and is located in the exhaust manifold between the turbo and catalytic converter. When at operating temperature it becomes a miniature battery which generates a voltage based on the differential between the oxygen content of the exhaust gas and the oxygen content of the ambient air. By this method it measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust stream, allowing the ECM to compensate to some degree for various fuel grades, engine wear, altitude changes, usage of oxygenated fuel, and more. Another big benefit is the ability to keep emissions of carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and unburned hydrocarbons as low as possible. 3, record 6, English, - oxygen%20sensor

3, record 6, French, - sonde%20d%27oxyg%C3%A8ne%20des%20gaz%20d%27%C3%A9chappement

An idle-stop system, also commonly known as a start-stop system, is essentially what makes up today's increasingly popular so-called mild hybrids.... The battery in a mild hybrid is still very important, but its main purpose is as a part of the idle-stop system that shuts off the gasoline engine when a mild hybrid is at rest, coasting or slowing down. For instance, a stop at a red light at an intersection will cause the engine to cut off. When the car is idle, no gas will burn inside the engine. Once the light turns green and the driver applies pressure to the gas pedal, the engine should switch back on seamlessly, as though it hadn’t been turned off at all. 1, record 19, English, - idle%2Dstop%20system

A turbofan is a type of aircraft engine consisting of a ducted fan which is powered by a gas turbine. Part of the airstream from the ducted fan passes through the gas turbine core, providing oxygen to burn fuel to create power. However, most of the air flow bypasses the engine core, and is accelerated by the fan blades in much the same manner as a propeller. The combination of thrust produced from the fan and the exhaust from the core is a more efficient process than other jet engine designs, resulting in a comparatively low specific fuel consumption. 5, record 31, English, - bypass%20engine

Overspeed conditions can occur in an engine for a number of reasons, such as for example, a sudden unforeseeable reduction in the engine load, a failure in the metering valve of the engine's fuel delivery system, or an erroneous signal from an associated electronic engine control(EEC) which modulates the metering valve to an excessively high flow setting. It is known to provide an overspeed protection system that monitors a speed of the engine, such as the rotational speed of the power turbine of a gas turbine engine, and upon detection of an overspeed condition will reduce or stop the flow of fuel to the engine from the fuel delivery system. 2, record 33, English, - overspeed%20protection%20system

Fuel starvation and fuel exhaustion(sometimes referred to as fuel depletion) are problems that can affect internal combustion engines fuelled by either diesel, kerosene, petroleum or any other combustible liquid or gas. If no fuel is available for an engine to burn, it cannot function. All modes of transport powered by such engines can be affected by this problem, but the consequences are most significant when it occurs to aircraft in flight. There are two main ways that an engine can run out of fuel :-Using up fuel. This is the most common cause of fuel exhaustion. An engine can use up all available fuel due to insufficient fuel being loaded for the planned journey or the journey time extended for too long(in the case of an aircraft, due to in-flight delays or problems)... ;-Leaking. In some cases, the fuel tank or the supply piping to the engine leaks and fuel is lost. This can cause engines to starve. 1, record 39, English, - fuel%20exhaustion

All modes of transport powered by such engines can be affected by this problem, but the consequences are most significant when it occurs to aircraft in flight.... A rocket engine is a device in which propellants are burned in a combustion chamber and the resulting high pressure gases are expanded through a specially shaped nozzle to produce thrust. The function of the nozzle is to convert the chemical-thermal energy generated in the combustion chamber into kinetic energy. The nozzle converts the slow moving, high pressure, high temperature gas in the combustion chamber into high velocity gas of lower pressure and temperature. Gas velocities from 2 to 4. 5 kilometers per second can be obtained in rocket nozzles. The nozzles which perform this feat are called DeLaval nozzles(after the inventor) and consist of a convergent and divergent section. The minimum flow area between the convergent and divergent section is called the nozzle throat. The flow area at the end of the divergent section is called the nozzle exit area. 6, record 54, English, - divergent%20exit%20cone

(...) engine condition monitoring was largely restricted to keeping a check on an engine's mechanical condition, with the aim of detecting discrepancies as soon as they occurred. Thermodynamic condition monitoring was generally limited to observing the exhaust gas temperature at take-off. 1, record 80, English, - thermodynamic%20condition%20monitoring

1, record 80, French, - surveillance%20de%20l%27int%C3%A9grit%C3%A9%20thermodynamique

In a traveler system, a giant sprinkler is mounted on a trailer and moved continuously by a winch. The winch is powered by a water turbine, using the flow of water to the sprinkler, or by a small gasoline or bottled gas engine. Most common traveling sprinklers are fed by a flexible hose from a main line. 1, record 82, English, - traveling%20sprinkler

Asperseurs mobiles. 1, record 82, French, - asperseur%20mobile
