The oxygen sensor(also known as an O2 sensor, lambda sensor, or EGO sensor) is one of the most critical sensors on a fuel-injected engine. It resembles a spark plug and is located in the exhaust manifold between the turbo and catalytic converter. When at operating temperature it becomes a miniature battery which generates a voltage based on the differential between the oxygen content of the exhaust gas and the oxygen content of the ambient air. By this method it measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust stream, allowing the ECM to compensate to some degree for various fuel grades, engine wear, altitude changes, usage of oxygenated fuel, and more. Another big benefit is the ability to keep emissions of carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and unburned hydrocarbons as low as possible. 3, record 9, English, - oxygen%20sensor

3, record 9, French, - sonde%20d%27oxyg%C3%A8ne%20des%20gaz%20d%27%C3%A9chappement

Gas-fired water heaters have a gas burner located below the tank, a thermostatic switch, a gas valve and a pilot light. The thermostat will open the gas valve when it senses the water temperature at the bottom of the tank has dropped below the present limit. Gas flows to the burner and is ignited by the pilot light, heating the tank from below. In addition, the hot exhaust gases are vented through a hollow core in the center of the tank to help heat the water. The exhaust is then passed into the draft hood and to the vent connector where it is discharged to a chimney flue. 3, record 20, English, - gas%20water%20heater

A turbofan is a type of aircraft engine consisting of a ducted fan which is powered by a gas turbine. Part of the airstream from the ducted fan passes through the gas turbine core, providing oxygen to burn fuel to create power. However, most of the air flow bypasses the engine core, and is accelerated by the fan blades in much the same manner as a propeller. The combination of thrust produced from the fan and the exhaust from the core is a more efficient process than other jet engine designs, resulting in a comparatively low specific fuel consumption. 5, record 25, English, - bypass%20engine

The MHD(magnetohydrodynamic) generator... transforms thermal energy or kinetic energy directly into electricity. MHD generators are different from traditional electric generators in that they can operate at high temperatures without moving parts. MHD was eagerly developed because the exhaust of a plasma MHD generator is a flame, still able to heat the boilers of a steam power plant. So high-temperature MHD was developed as a topping cycle to increase the efficiency of electric generation, especially when burning coal or natural gas. It has also been applied to pump liquid metals and for quiet submarine engines. 1, record 27, English, - magnetohydrodynamic%20generator

In the MEA [mono-ethanol amine] process... the gases go to the absorption column where the carbon dioxide binds to the solvent chemically. Most of the CO2 is thus removed from the exhaust gas that is released to the atmosphere and the reach solution(i. e. the solution containing the absorbed CO2) flows to a lean/rich heat exchanger : here the hot lean solution, coming from the stripper column(regenerator), cools itself giving out its heat to the rich solution, which then goes to the regenerator. 5, record 32, English, - lean%2Frich%20heat%20exchanger

1, record 33, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20d%27air%20chaud%20%C3%A0%20condensation%20aliment%C3%A9%20au%20gaz

There are two sub-types : pure suspension and cyclonic. Pure suspension units are true "burners" in that a stable open flame(similar to a gas or oil burner flame) is created by air jets that are usually mounted in the wall of the combustor or boiler. Cyclonic suspension units have a refractory cylindrical combustion chamber into which the fuel particles and air are introduced tangentially. The long cyclonic gas circulation keeps the fuel circulating in the chamber, resulting in complete combustion of the fuel, but all ash normally exits with the hot exhaust gases. Fuel is fed to both types of these burners by pneumatic feeders with the fuel air stream forming the primary air supply. 2, record 34, English, - suspension%20burner

1, record 34, French, - chaudi%C3%A8re%20%C3%A0%20lit%20en%20suspension

Ion propulsion is a technology that involves ionizing a gas to propel a craft. Instead of a spacecraft being propelled with standard chemicals, the gas xenon(which is like neon or helium, but heavier) is given an electrical charge, or ionized. It is then electrically accelerated to a speed of about 30 km/second. When xenon ions are emitted at such high speed as exhaust from a spacecraft, they push the spacecraft in the opposite direction. 6, record 36, English, - ion%20propulsion

The Turbotak Scrubber : TurboSonic' s proprietary spray nozzle systems are used to finely atomize scrubbing liquids into literally trillions of droplets. A packed tower scrubber removes soluble and noxious gases, and mists with droplet sizes greater than 5 µm, from gas streams. Contaminant gases, such as hydrochloric acid, sulphur dioxide and ammonia vapour, are made to flow through a bed packed with media. The media can be plastic, ceramic or stainless steel rings or saddles, designed to provide a high surface area yet allow a high throughput. A scrubbing liquor is pumped through the bed, intimately mixes with the gas stream and dissolves the contaminant gases. 2, record 37, English, - scrubbing%20liquid

Several [internal cooling] systems have been developed that incorporate three basic approaches : liquified gas, super-cold air with water vapor, and air exchange methods.... The air-exchange system is a far simpler method. Here, after the parison has been expanded, plant air is allowed to circulate through the bottle and exhaust. Differential pressure inside the bottle is maintained at 80 psi(550 kPa) to ensure that the parison stays in contact with the mold cavity. Production rate improvements are modest; only 10-15% improvement can be expected. 1, record 67, English, - air%2Dexchange%20system

Several [internal cooling] systems have been developed that incorporate three basic approaches : liquified gas, super-cold air with water vapor, and air exchange methods.... The super-cold air system with water vapor works much the same way [as the liquified gas system]. Here, very dry, subzero blowing air expands the parison. The expanded air is allowed to circulate through the bottle and exhaust. Immediately after the parison has expanded, a fine mist of water is injected into the cold air stream. As it flows, the water mist turns into snow. As the snow circulates through the container, it melts and then vaporizes. At the end of the molding cycle, the water mist is stopped, permitting the circulating air to purge and dry the interior before the mold is opened and the part is removed. Production rates can be improved as much as 50%. 1, record 68, English, - super%2Dcold%20air%20system%20with%20water%20vapor

Exhaust heat recovery. Exhaust heat may be used to make steam, or used directly for drying or other processes. The steam thus produced will provide space heating, hot water, and absorption refrigeration, which may supply air conditioning and process refrigeration. The Hot-Mix Paving Industry.... The volume of exhaust gas required to dry each ton of aggregate increases by more than 10% for each additional percent of moisture removed. Maintaining a production rate with increased moisture means that more exhaust gas may be created from combustion and evaporation of water than the fan can remove. This causes the pressure in the drum to become greater than the outside air. The back pressure thus created causes the familiar puff-back at the burner opening. 1, record 79, English, - puff%2Dback

There is clear agreement among the manufacturers that the basic mission control approach will be the closed-loop, three-way catalyst system. In addition to the catalyst, the typical system will consist of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR), air injection(pulse air in light vehicles, air pump in heavy vehicles), oxygen sensor, micro-computer, and feed-back carburetor or electronic fuel injection. 1, record 90, English, - feed%2Dback%20carburetor

Condensing flue gas furnaces and boilers... have additional heat exchange surfaces, often made of stainless steel or other corrosion-resistant material, to lower the flue gas temperature below the temperature of condensation and regain some or all of the heat these gases contain. Most have an induced draft fan. There is no need for a chimney... Condensing furnaces and boilers use one of two types of combustion systems : Conventional Combustion condensing furnaces... Pulsating Combustion systems... Based on a design developed... in Canada... pulsating combustion eliminates the need for an induced draft fan, by exhausting the combustion products with a series of pressure pulses while condensing the by-products to regain some of the heat contained in the exhaust gases. 1, record 91, English, - pulsating%20combustion%20system

1, record 93, French, - surveillance%20de%20l%27int%C3%A9grit%C3%A9%20thermodynamique
