DEF

OBS

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Natural Gas and Derivatives
  • Gas Industry
CONT

The members of the noble gas family are chemically very non-reactive and form very few compounds. Nearby elements can obtain these same stable arrangements by losing or gaining electrons.

CONT

The refrigerant ... is an HFC, a family of gases that do not contribute to the growing of the ozone layer hole but contribute to the global warming.

OBS

Gaseous fuels whose combustion characteristics are in large measure similar, i. e. that have similar Wobbe numbers, which make them interchangeable, form a family of gases. The first family comprises town gas(hydrogen-rich gaseous fuels) ;the second family comprises natural gases, gases associated with petroleum and gases interchangeable with these; and the third family comprises liquefied petroleum gases(propane and butane).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Chimie analytique
  • Gaz naturel et dérivés
  • Industrie du gaz
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

[A] family of related detectors [which] is based upon changes in the conductivity of electricity through gases arising as a result of the presence of charged particles and ions in the gas. These ions may be created by combustion(as in the flame ionization detector), transfer of energy(in the argon detector), or by ß ionization(in the cross-section and electron capture detectors).

OBS

The first detector of this series that was developed was the cross-section detector although the most widely used is the flame ionization detector. Their great popularity rests in their wide applicability and high sensitivity.

  • Physique atomique
DEF

CONT

If you have a concern about your ability to detect gas leaks, a gas detector can be an important tool to help protect you and your family.

OBS

Do not confuse the three terms "detector", "sensor" and "monitor." A detector (in French: "détecteur") is used to detect the presence of anything liable to escape observation, to indicate any deviation from normal conditions, or the like; a sensor (in French: "capteur") gives a signal for the detection or measurement of a physical property to which it responds, it is a part of a detector; a monitor (in French: "appareil de surveillance en continu") measures or tests at intervals, especially for the purpose of regulation or control.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Instruments scientifiques
  • Appareils de contrôle et d'enregistrement
  • Dispositifs de sécurité
  • Pollution de l'air
CONT

Restaurants.... Consideration should be given to providing automatic sprinklers or an approved automatic dry chemical or inert gas type of extinguishing system.

OBS

Inert gas : The gases in the family of elements in the zero valence column of the periodic table, including helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, and radon [and which exlude oxygen or dilutes it below the concentration necessary for combustion].

French

Domaine(s)
  • Matériel de secours et de lutte (incendies)
OBS

CONT

Latex bearing plants of the Euphorbiaceae family usually contain, in addition to rubber, important levels of highly reduced constituents. However the molecular weight of these products is too high to allow for a direct use as fuels and/or feedstocks. We examined the pyrolysis of the latex and of the heptanic extract of Euphorbia tirucalli, a species commonly growing in East Africa. Pyrolyses were carried out under an inert gas flow, in the absence or in the presence of various zeolites.... The zeolitic catalysts-improve the yield of volatile products from the extract-influence the relative abundance of the volatile constituents of the pyrolysates-strongly increase the hydrocarbon level, especially from latex, in the low and medium volatility fraction.
