Electrospray ionization(ESI) is a technique to generate ions for mass spectrometry using electrospray by applying a high voltage to a liquid to produce an aerosol.... ESI overcomes the tendency of [the] molecules to fragment upon ionization.... ESI applies a high voltage at the outlet of the capillary, and the high electric field generated atomizes the liquid flowing out of the capillary into tiny charged droplets. As the solvent evaporates, the charge intensity on the surface of the droplet gradually increases, and finally the droplet splits into one or a plurality of charged ions, allowing the analyte to enter the gas phase in the form of a single charge or multiple charges and become a gas phase ion. 1, record 1, English, - electrospray%20ionization

A key difference between APCI [atmospheric pressure chemical ionization] and ESI is that ESI is based on ions that are formed in solution, whereas APCI uses ions that are formed in the gas phase. 4, record 1, English, - electrospray%20ionization

Carbon nanosheets(CNS) are a promising two-dimensional carbon allotrope for high current field emission cathodes and are grown by radio frequency(RF) plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition from a C²H²/H² gas blend at substrate temperatures of ~ 600 °C. The resulting film consists of vertically oriented, honeycomb sp² carbon arrays terminating in single graphene sheets that serve as field emission cathodes. Conditioned films have previously been shown to provide high emission current density(~ 2 mA/mm²), and stable lifetime(less than 5% variation over >200 h). 2, record 2, English, - carbon%20nanoplate

5, record 8, French, - direction%20anti%2Dsolaire

Oil slick dispersants. When oil ... is treated with a suitable surface active agent and agitation applied, the oil is broken up into particles ... so small that they constitute an oil-in-water emulsion ... Dispersants serve to increase the surface area of an oil spill and disperse oil globules throughout the layer volume water. This causes an accelerated degradation of oil by microbiological action. 7, record 17, English, - dispersant
Record number: 17, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The chemicals used to disperse the oil are emulsifiers. Although a chemist would never confuse the terms dispersant and emulsifier, the former designating a product which encourages the distribution of finely divided solids in a fluid, either liquid or gas, the latter referring to a product which encourages the colloidal dispersion of one liquid in another, the terms are synonymous in the field of oil pollution control. This is explained by the following sentence taken from "The Control of oil pollution on the sea and inland waters", edited by J. Wardley-Smith(source COCOB) :"It was found... [that the product] when sprayed on to the oil, effectively softened and dispersed it by means of emulsification... "The dispersion is accomplished by products which emulsify the oil, i. e., emulsifiers. Dispersion is used in its general sense and hence dispersant simply means a product that causes spreading. Also dispersant is used more frequently than emulsifier. 8, record 17, English, - dispersant

The name "electrostatic" precipitation for this process is open to some criticism on the grounds that even though the electric field is static, the drift of the charged gaseous ions and particles give rise to a current and so the qualification "static" is not strictly applicable. For this reason the term "electro-precipitation" is possibly to be preferred, but, on the other hand, this approximates rather closely to the accepted term "electro-deposition" used for another process, and so might give rise to some confusion. 3, record 18, English, - electrostatic%20precipitation

The exploration department at Cogema Resources ... recognized the technical difficulties and expense encountered in drilling deep vertical holes. The solution was a technique called navigational drilling (or Navi-drilling) that was used in the oil industry and, less often, in mining. ... Simply put, navi-drilling allows operators to begin drilling a new hole 500 to 600 metres below the surface by using a pre-existing "pilot hole." This significantly reduces costs as the same hole is used for up to six navi-drilling holes. A steerable motor with a rotor system turns a cutting bit. The motor is powered by hydraulic force created by the mixture of water and drilling muds pumped inside the drill string. The fluid is pumped through the motor and returns to the surface at a rate of up to 250 litres per minute. [Followed by an illustration of a schematic cross-section showing navi-drilling holes.] 2, record 38, English, - navigational%20drilling

Newbergh Industries Limited("Newbergh") has developed and patented a technology which will greatly enhance the steering currently being used in oil and gas field directional drilling. This technology, which is known under the acronym of "HANDS", which stands for Hydraulic Activated Navigational Drilling System, will be incorporated in a so-called benthousing, which will make this piece of equipment remote adjustable whilst drilling for the first time. Its implication will improve drilling performance in terms of speed as well as quality and will result in considerable cost savings for the oil companies and savings in energy to drill the bore holes. 6, record 38, English, - navigational%20drilling

As underground development proceeds to production levels, a return air raise (RAR) will be installed approximately 270 metres north west of the Hart Shaft and allow the Hart Shaft to revert to a second fresh air intake source. The site for the RAR, which will probably be 4.0 metres in diameter, has been confirmed following vertical navi drilling and the use of a RAAX digital imaging borehole camera to geotechnically assess the insitu ground conditions. 3, record 38, English, - navigational%20drilling

3, record 38, French, - forage%20multibranche

As a gas utility guy I can say that 3-layer poly is not a common coating for most distribution applications. It is more likely to be used where the need for extremely high reliability (such as offshore) or resistance to abrasion (such pulling pipe through a bore) warrants the high cost. The extruded polyethylene (also sometimes called yellow jacket) coating is common and is much less expensive, although also less reliable. 3, record 45, English, - yellow%20jacket

Its mature phase is generally accompanied by an increasing production of water or gas, plus the aging of surface and subsurface equipment. To revitalize mature fields, a series of technologies is developed to increase the final recovery factor through treatments on a field(the so-called tertiary petroleum recovery) or well(stimulation, recompletion, treatments and logging) scale, in addition to optimizing the techniques relating to oil lift, its surface flow and treatment. 2, record 53, English, - mature%20field%20revitalization

Many mature gas fields also have a fairly significant production decline, especially when development drilling has come to an end. These mature fields can be revitalized in many ways. In some instances, efforts are focused on the reservoir with further drilling to drain potentially unswept hydrocarbons with infill wells or horizontal laterals. The horizontal drilling might be from new wellbores or wells that are currently temporarily abandoned or near their economic limit. With the increase in horizontal-well activity, there is an abundance of new technology with advances in gravel-pack design, underbalanced drilling with coiled tubing, and coiled-tubing fracturing. Besides these production improvements, operators are revamping both downhole and surface facilities to help breathe new life into older fields. Advances are taking place in the areas of artificial lift, intelligent-well completions, expandable tubulars, and others. 3, record 53, English, - mature%20field%20revitalization

The Shell Middle Distillate Synthesis(SMDS) plant now operational at Bintulu, Malaysia, is the latest in a series of partnership projects between Shell companies and the people of Malaysia that stretches back for more than 100 years. The new plant uses advanced technology to convert natural gas, abundantly available from the Central Luconia field offshore Sarawak, into liquid fuels of high purity. These fuels can also be used as components to upgrade lower quality stock derived from conventional crude oil processing. In addition, the plant can produce high-value waxes, as well as feedstocks for detergents and lubricants. The product mix can be varied to meet market needs. The SMDS technology was developed at the Shell laboratory in Amsterdam(KSLA) over a period of 20 years. The base of the exosphere is called the critical level of escape because, in the absence of collisions, lighter, faster-moving atoms such as hydrogen and helium may attain velocities that allow them to escape the planet’s gravitational field. A neutral gas(one where the individual molecules are electrically neutral) is a perfect insulator at low field strength. However, if it is subjected to a highly energizing field, some electrons will be ejected from their atoms and lead a brief independent existence before recombining with another molecule or being removed by encountering a conducting electrode. Thus a gaseous conduction path is formed. If current carriers are being generated more rapidly than are absorbed, the gas becomes fine conductor. 1, record 64, English, - gaseous%20conduction%20path

An MHD generator is a device that directly converts the kinetic and thermal energy of an ionized gas to electrical energy by forcing the gas to move in a duct or channel through a magnetic field. The motion induces an electromotive force which can then be used to power an external load. 2, record 85, English, - MHD%20generation%20of%20electricity
