4, record 2, French, - bec%20Bunsen

The guns, so-called, are pressure vessels about 6 in. in diameter and 30 in. long. They are provided with a steam inlet, a bleed-off valve, and a means for heating the gun-usually by a gas flame. A charge of pellets [made from cereals] at 11 to 12% moisture is dropped into the open end of the gun from a gravity chute leading from the storage bins on the floor above. The end of the gun is sealed by a trip-valve. All valves are closed, sealing the gun. If the gun is heated by gas flames, it is slowly rotated while the temperature, and consequently the pressure, is slowly built up. The temperature may reach 500 to 800 degrees F, and the pressure at the end point may be 100 to 200 psi.... When the pressure reaches the necessary level, the end of the gun is suddenly opened by a trigger mechanism. The contents explode... into a cage or bin with a floor opening leading to a conveyor belt. 3, record 8, English, - puffing%20gun

The Petrogen® Liquid Fuel Cutting System is a solid, proven technology that brings you unequally safety, performance, and cost savings. Petrogen makes cuts that are impossible with any other torch, incredibly fast and clean with less airborne contaminants. Petrogen cuts up to 14 inches of steel. The powerful flame easily cuts through layers and across air gaps, through rust, paint, even concrete-backed steel without popping. Petrogen fuel is regular liquid gasoline, kept liquid from the tank to the tip. The Petrogen System is much safer than compressed gas systems such as acetylene or propane. Fuel line backflash is impossible! Many built-in safety features provide the safest cutting torch made. [Text followed by an illustration. ] 2, record 9, English, - Petrogen%C2%AE%20torch

Oxyfuel combustion. An alternative is to burn the fossil fuel in pure or enriched oxygen. In such a fashion the flue gas will contain mostly CO2 and H2O. A part of the flue gas needs to be recycled into the combustion chamber in order to control the flame temperature. From the non-recycled flue gas, water vapor can be readily condensed, and the CO2 can be compressed and piped directly to the storage site. 3, record 10, English, - oxyfuel%20combustion

The MHD(magnetohydrodynamic) generator... transforms thermal energy or kinetic energy directly into electricity. MHD generators are different from traditional electric generators in that they can operate at high temperatures without moving parts. MHD was eagerly developed because the exhaust of a plasma MHD generator is a flame, still able to heat the boilers of a steam power plant. So high-temperature MHD was developed as a topping cycle to increase the efficiency of electric generation, especially when burning coal or natural gas. 1, record 21, French, - g%C3%A9n%C3%A9rateur%20d%27air%20chaud%20%C3%A0%20condensation%20aliment%C3%A9%20au%20gaz

There are two sub-types : pure suspension and cyclonic. Pure suspension units are true "burners" in that a stable open flame(similar to a gas or oil burner flame) is created by air jets that are usually mounted in the wall of the combustor or boiler. Cyclonic suspension units have a refractory cylindrical combustion chamber into which the fuel particles and air are introduced tangentially. The long cyclonic gas circulation keeps the fuel circulating in the chamber, resulting in complete combustion of the fuel, but all ash normally exits with the hot exhaust gases. Fuel is fed to both types of these burners by pneumatic feeders with the fuel air stream forming the primary air supply. 2, record 23, English, - suspension%20burner

1, record 23, French, - chaudi%C3%A8re%20%C3%A0%20lit%20en%20suspension

NOx can be reduced by injecting the combustion air in two stages, normally by reducing air flow to the burner and injecting the remainder through "overfire" air ports in the side of the boiler. Low-NOx burners that accomplish staged conditions within the burner flame have also been developed. Staged combustion... reduces emission by 15-25%. 3, record 24, English, - staged%20combustion

The rate of the explosion wave is a definite physical constant for each mixture. Halide detectors are propane burners with a copper grid or ring in the flame. Air is drawn into the flame through a hose that can be directed to various areas under fumigation. If halide vapour, such as carbon tetrachloride or methyl bromide, contacts the hot copper ring, it reacts to form a blue-coloured copper halide. The intensity of this blue colour indicates the amount of gas present. This is a fairly sensitive method that registers the presence of a halide gas but does not indicate phosphine gas. 1, record 32, English, - halide%20detector

1, record 32, French, - halog%C3%A9nom%C3%A8tre

This fibre optic viewing head extension is particularly useful for solving the sighting problems associated with tilting or movable burners. The flame envelope from this type of burner can be tilted from a horizontal position up or down as much as 30 degrees. It would be impossible to follow this flame pattern with a fixed sighting through the wind-box. Welding the tip guide (lens end) of this viewing head extension to the movable air compartment nozzle solves this problem. This viewing head extension can also be used for those applications where it is impossible to find a clear unobstructed view of the flame using a standard sight pipe. Here again the viewing head extension is mounted inside the furnace for a clear unobstructed view of the flame. 4, record 37, English, - sighting%20pipe

An inspirator mixer, does not require a blower but does require high pressure gas,(can be dangerous) and is not very economical or efficient. The tip or nozzle is usually always a flame retention type tip. The reason this burner requires high pressure gas is that the gas needs to be moving at a high rate of speed in order to induce enough air for proper combustion. It is usually used for propane and in a situation where no electricity is available. If you have high pressure gas it is recommended that you use a regulator and switch to an aspirator mixer type system. 3, record 40, English, - inspirator%20mixer

Oxygen-fuel gas cutting process uses an oxygen-fuel gas flame to heat metal.(...) It is possible to burn(rapidly oxidize) iron or steel. The oxy-fuel gas flame raises the temperature of the metal to a cherry red color(1472 to 1832 F.). Then, a high-pressure jet of oxygen is directed at the metal, causing metal to burn(oxidize) and blow away very rapidly.(...) There are two basic types of aspirator-burners that are used in atomic absorption. The first is the total-consumption burner... The fuel and oxidant(support) gases are mixed and combust at the tip of the burner. The sample is drawn up into the flame by the "Venturi effect, "by the support gas. The gas creates a partial vacuum above the capillary barrel, causing the sample to be forced up the capillary. It is broken into a fine spray at the tip where the gases are turbulently mixed and burned. This is the usual process of "nebulization. "The burner is called total consumption because the entire aspirated sample enters the flame. 1, record 51, English, - total%2Dconsumption%20burner

Flame Emissivity Detector. Another detector based on monitoring a specific property of a flame, its emissivity, was developed by Grant, who mixed coal gas in constant proportions with the effluent from a chromatographic column; this coal gas/effluent mixture burned at a wide stainless steel jet. The emissivity of the flame, changing as the flame's carbon content is varied, is measured with the aid of a metal reflector, glass condensing lens, and selenium photocell; these are held in place from each other at their proper optical distances.... For low background emissivity values, response is nonlinear. However, by controlling the coal gas flow rate to maintain emissivity between 0. 60 and 0. 80 mV, detector response is linear over a wide temperature range. 1, record 55, English, - flame%20emissivity%20detector

The second type of burner, used in most commercial instruments, is the premix chamber burner, sometimes called the laminar-flow burner.... The fuel and support gases are mixed in a chamber before they enter the burner head(through a slot) where they combust. The sample solution is again aspirated through a capillary by the "Venturi effect" using the support gas for the aspiration. Large droplets of the sample condense and drain out of the chamber. The remaining fine droplets mix with the gases and enter the flame. As much as 90% of the droplets condense out, leaving only 10% to enter the flame. 2, record 57, English, - premix%20burner

Flash Calcining. Flash or gas suspension calcining is a recent development, and at least two manufacturers are promoting this technology as another alternative for pulp mill lime reburning. Fuller, for example, has over 25 flash calcining systems in operation on a variety of materials. The heart of the system is a swirl-type furnace in which the combustion of fuel is in intimate contact with the material being calcined. Fuller claims that the turbulent swirling mixture produces a uniform temperature profile, and that conventional flame temperatures are never encountered because the material absorbs the excess heat instantaneously. 1, record 61, English, - flash%20calcining

[Atomic Emission Techniques. ] An especially promising emission technique that has come to fruition as a useful routine analytical tool within the last several years is inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy. The "flame" for this technique consists of an incandescent plasma(ionized gas) or argon heated inductively by radiofrequency energy at 4-50 MHz and 2-5 kW. The energy is transferred to a stream of argon through an induction coil, obtaining temperatures up to 10, 000°K.... the technique enables emission analysis of some of the environmentally important metalloids such as arsenic, boron, and selenium. 3, record 64, English, - inductively%2Dcoupled%20plasma%2Datomic%20emission%20spectroscopy

The blow pipe was the first burner to produce a blue flame and, therefore, any great heat intensity. The blue flame was produced by blowing primary air into the base of the flame. The modern blow pipe accomplishes this same thing by blowing compressed air in the same end that the gas enters. The gas and air is thus mixed in the pipe as in the burners in modern day furnaces. 1, record 65, English, - blow%20pipe

Horizontal Rotary-Atomizing Burner.... The burner consists of an atomizing or spinner cup, and air blower, and a region in which the air and oil are mixed. The cup, which is mounted on a horizontal motor shaft, is revolved at a speed of 3, 450 revolutions per minute or higher. The oil fed to the cup is atomized by whirling the oil off the edge of the cup. As the oil droplets leave the edge, they are caught up in a horizontal air current from the blower. The resulting fuel-air mixture is ignited by a gas pilot near the cup, and the flame is projected horizontally. 2, record 68, English, - horizontal%20rotary%20cup%20oil%20burner

The alternatives for nitrogen oxide control are boiler operation changes, combustion equipment modifications to reduce NOx formation, and flue gas treatment... In the U. S. and Canada, combustion modification(CM) is the most common method of NOx reduction. 2, record 72, English, - low%2DNOx%20burner

1, record 72, French, - br%C3%BBleur%20%C3%A0%20faible%20taux%20d%27%C3%A9missions%20de%20NOx

The probe of the smoke testing apparatus is inserted through the hole in the flue pipe and a flue gas sample is drawn through a piece of filter paper.
