GAS HOUSE [16 records]

Record 1 2013-01-07

English

Subject field(s)
  • Building Ventilation
  • Radioactive Contamination
CONT

Active soil depressurization has been found to be the most effective and reliableradon reduction technique in existing homes... This method involves installing a vent pipe through the basement floor slab... or connecting it to the foundation drain tiles through the sump. A fan that runs continuously is connected to the vent pipe. This reverses the air pressure difference between the house and soil, reducing concentrations of soil gas, including radon, next to the foundation.

  • Pollution par radioactivité
CONT

We are deeply involved in cogeneration plants including biomass and gas turbines.... Co-Generation Power Island..... "Power Islands, ""Merchant Plants, ""Across the Fence Cogeneration, ""Third Party Steam Plants, "and "Client CHP" are some of the names used to refer to unconventional commercial arrangements for the production and procurement of steam and electrical power to pulp and paper mills. Although the term "Power Island" is often used to describe third party cogeneration facilities, the concept is completely different from an island. The power house that provides the steam and power to the mill has a direct and immediate effect on the pulp mill' s operational stability and uptime as well as the operating costs.

CONT

The IGCC [Integrated Gasification with Combined Cycle] demonstration plant in Puertollano features many advantages compared to conventional coal fired power stations with flue gas desulphurization (FGD) and DeNOx systems: ... The plant consists of the following three main units: Power island, gasification island, and oxygen production plant (Air Separation). ... The power island. The combined cycle in the Puertollano plant ... can be operated both with natural gas and synthesis gas. The main features are: A 200 MWe (ISO) Siemens model V94.3 gas turbine. A three-pressure level and IP steam reheating heat recovery steam generator designed by Babcock able to additionally superheat the steam generated through raw gas cooling in the gasification. A two casing reheat steam turbine designed by Siemens that delivers roughly 135 MWe. The clean coal gas is burned by the coal gas burners in the combustion chamber of the gas turbine. The sensible heat of extracted air is used for clean gas saturation, low pressure steam production and preheating of impure nitrogen. [Text accompanied by a schematic diagram.]

CONT

The liberalization of the energy market is demanding more-efficient power plants using cheaper fuels. ... The first option ... is to convert old oil- or existing gas-fired power plants to new combined-cycle power plants. The second option is to convert old oil- or existing gas-fired units to efficient and environmentally friendly power plants that burn cheaper fuels, using the best available technology for the power island and the flue gas treatment equipment.

Gobar gas.... An effort is underway to spread a design method of converting this manure into methane to use as cooking fuel. A circular pit made of concrete is sealed and manure is added over time. Pipes lead from this container into the house, where gas is emitted at the cooking location. Residue from the combustion process comes out at a different location in a concentrated form and is used for fertilizer. Human waste may also be used with the addition of an outhouse, but this is sanitarily unfriendly to the Nepalis, even though the bacteria is killed in the combustion process.

OBS

Convection. Process of heat [(transfer of heat) ] carried from one point to another by movement of a liquid or a gas(i. e., air). Natural convection is caused by expansion of the liquid or gas when heated. Expansion reduces the density of the medium, causing it to rise above the cooler, more dense portions of the medium. Gravity heating systems are examples of the profitable use of natural convection. The air, heated by the furnace, becomes less dense(consequently lighter) and rises, distributing heat to the various areas of the house without any type of blower. When a blower is used, the heat transfer method is called "forced convection. "

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house.

With conventional gas furnaces, little can be done to prevent losses of heated house air up the chimney when the furnace is firing. What can be prevented, though, is the loss that occurs when the furnace is not firing. A positive vent damper consists of a tight-fitting hinged damper door mounted in a steel collar and fitted into the flue pipe just before the pipe enters the chimney base. A fail-safe interlock switch prevents the furnace from firing unless the damper is completely open. This device may also be used with propane furnace.
