Active soil depressurization has been found to be the most effective and reliableradon reduction technique in existing homes... This method involves installing a vent pipe through the basement floor slab... or connecting it to the foundation drain tiles through the sump. A fan that runs continuously is connected to the vent pipe. This reverses the air pressure difference between the house and soil, reducing concentrations of soil gas, including radon, next to the foundation. 3, record 1, English, - active%20soil%20depressurization

1, record 1, French, - d%C3%A9pressurisation%20active%20du%20sol

The IGCC [Integrated Gasification with Combined Cycle] demonstration plant in Puertollano features many advantages compared to conventional coal fired power stations with flue gas desulphurization (FGD) and DeNOx systems: ... The plant consists of the following three main units: Power island, gasification island, and oxygen production plant (Air Separation). ... The power island. The combined cycle in the Puertollano plant ... can be operated both with natural gas and synthesis gas. The main features are: A 200 MWe (ISO) Siemens model V94.3 gas turbine. A three-pressure level and IP steam reheating heat recovery steam generator designed by Babcock able to additionally superheat the steam generated through raw gas cooling in the gasification. A two casing reheat steam turbine designed by Siemens that delivers roughly 135 MWe. The clean coal gas is burned by the coal gas burners in the combustion chamber of the gas turbine. Convection. Process of heat [(transfer of heat) ] carried from one point to another by movement of a liquid or a gas(i. e., air). Natural convection is caused by expansion of the liquid or gas when heated. Expansion reduces the density of the medium, causing it to rise above the cooler, more dense portions of the medium. Gravity heating systems are examples of the profitable use of natural convection. The air, heated by the furnace, becomes less dense(consequently lighter) and rises, distributing heat to the various areas of the house without any type of blower. When a blower is used, the heat transfer method is called "forced convection. " 5, record 9, English, - natural%20convection

In fuel-burning furnaces, the combustion takes place within a metal-walled heat exchanger and the circulating air passes over the outside surfaces of the heat exchanger so that it does not contact the fuel or the products of combustion. The products of combustion are conveyed to the outside atmosphere through a flue or vent. 1, record 12, English, - fuel%2Dburning%20furnace

A warm air heating system, fueled by gas, electricity, oil or wood, does two jobs. First, heat is produced by burning the fuel in the combustion chamber or through electrical resistance. Second, heat is transferred through the heat exchanger and the distribution system to the living areas of the house. 2, record 12, English, - fuel%2Dburning%20furnace

Forced Air Wood Furnaces. Central wood-burning furnaces are controlled by a wall mounted thermostat in the living area. Temperature and fan controls are the same as those found on oil and gas furnaces. Unlike room heaters, which produce a steady heat output by periodic manual adjustments of the draft control, most wood furnaces operate in cycles. A cycle starts with the thermostat sensing that heat is needed in the room where it is located. It signals the furnace control system which opens the combustion air damper and a hot fire develops. When the air inside the furnace's sheet metal casing gets hot, a preset fan control starts the circulating blower and the warm air is moved through the ducts to all areas of the house. 1, record 13, English, - forced%20air%20wood%20furnace

To accommodate different house styles, there are three forced air electric furnace designs. The upflow system is similar to conventional oil or gas furnaces, discharging warm air from the top of the cabinet into the distribution ducts and taking house air in from the back or top of the cabinet. It is best located in the basement. Horizontal flow systems... Downflow systems... 1, record 14, English, - upflow%20system

With conventional gas furnaces, little can be done to prevent losses of heated house air up the chimney when the furnace is firing. What can be prevented, though, is the loss that occurs when the furnace is not firing. A positive vent damper consists of a tight-fitting hinged damper door mounted in a steel collar and fitted into the flue pipe just before the pipe enters the chimney base. A fail-safe interlock switch prevents the furnace from firing unless the damper is completely open. This device may also be used with propane furnace. 1, record 15, English, - positive%20vent%20damper
