Combustion Override Split Production Horizontal Well Process(COSH). The main feature of this process, developed by the Alberta Research Council(ARC), is implementation of gravity drainage using a basal horizontal well in a combustion process. The configuration of different wells is critical to the operation of this process. A linear configuration of vertical air injection wells is drilled and completed in the upper portion of the reservoir. A horizontal oil production well is completed in the bottom of the reservoir, aligned and positioned beneath the vertical injection wells. The reservoir is prepared for ignition and combustion is initiated at each of the injection wells. A hot fluid-transmissive chamber is formed around each of the injection wells as combustion proceeds. Combustion gas communication is established with the gas production wells. Heated oil and water, produced by the combustion front in each hot chamber, drains under the effect of gravity and is brought to the surface through the horizontal production well. 3, record 14, English, - combustion%20override%20split%20production%20horizontal%20well%20process

2, record 14, French, - combustion%20in%20situ%20avec%20puits%20de%20production%20horizontal

Thermoacoustic refrigeration is a novel refrigeration process utilizing acoustic energy to produce heat pumping. The process uses standing acoustic waves in an enclosed cavity to generate the mechanical compression and expansion of a working fluid(gas in this case) needed for the cooling cycle. The technique has the potential for high efficiency operation without the need for cooling liquids or mechanical moving parts. 3, record 25, English, - thermoacoustic%20refrigeration

Simply put, the pressure chamber ... is just a device for applying air pressure to a leaf (or small shoot), where most of the leaf is inside the chamber but a small part of the leaf stem (the petiole) is exposed to the outside of the chamber through a seal. The amount of pressure that it takes to cause water to appear at the petiole tells you how much tension the leaf is experiencing on its water: a high value of pressure means a high value of tension and a high degree of water stress. ... it has long been known that to compress air to high pressures a staged process should be used, compressing air to first 50 bars, then to 150 bars then three hundred and so on. This technique, commonly employed by the air and gas liquefaction industries, uses a fraction of the energy used to compress the gas in one operation. The secret of the compressed air motor is simply to reverse the process-decompress the air in stages and in so doing efficiently release energy at each point in the chain. 2, record 33, English, - compressed%2Dair%20engine

Other blow molding operations.... Fluorination surface treatment is a process to improve the gas barrier of polyethylene to nonpolar solvents. A barrier is created by the chemical reaction of the fluorine and the polyethylene, which form a thin(20-40 nm) fluorocarbon layer on the bottle surface. Two systems are available for creating the layer. The "in-process" system uses fluorine as a part of the parison expand gas in the blowing operation. The "post-treatment" system requires bottles to be placed in an enclosed chamber filled with fluorine gas. The method forms a barrier layer on both the inside and outside surfaces. This surface treatment allows low-cost, blow-molded polyethylene bottles to be used for paint, paint thinner, lighter fluid, polishes, cleaning solvents, cosmetics, and toiletries. The approach can replace other higher cost resins or coextrusion processes. 1, record 55, English, - fluorination%20surface%20treatment

Dynamic adsorption. The most common mode of adsorptive separation process employs a fixed bed, cyclic operation. As the wet process stream enters the fresh molecular-sieve bed, the water vapor is adsorbed in a finite length of bed called a mass-transfer zone(MTZ), the bed length through which the concentration of the adsorbate is reduced from essentially inlet to outlet conditions. As wet gas continues to flow, the bed may be divided into three distinct zones; the dynamic equilibrium zone with inlet gas, the MTZ, and the remaining active zone. In most molecular-adsorption systems, the MTZ becomes stabilized because of its favorable isotherm and moves at a constant speed. The bed is exhausted when the leading edge of the MTZ reaches the outlet end of the bed. High effective capacity results from high dynamic equilibrium capacity and a short MTZ. 1, record 57, English, - dynamic%20adsorption

Flash Calcining. Flash or gas suspension calcining is a recent development, and at least two manufacturers are promoting this technology as another alternative for pulp mill lime reburning. Fuller, for example, has over 25 flash calcining systems in operation on a variety of materials. The heart of the system is a swirl-type furnace in which the combustion of fuel is in intimate contact with the material being calcined. Fuller claims that the turbulent swirling mixture produces a uniform temperature profile, and that conventional flame temperatures are never encountered because the material absorbs the excess heat instantaneously. 1, record 58, English, - flash%20calcining

The use of biomass as a feedstock for the production of energy and chemicals has been a popular research topic over the past decade. One of the technologies receiving a great deal of attention is liquefaction in which biomass is converted to oil under high temperatures and pressures. This technology has evolved from a slow, chemical intensive process to a very rapid operation requiring little more than water. Feeling that typical reactor residence times(1-2 hours) were excessive, Beckman developed a small unit capable of reducing heat-up times to less than three minutes. Under these conditions it was found that neither a catalyst nor reducing gas was required. A mixture of only wood and water, when rapidly heated to 350°C, yielded an oil, char and gaseous and aqueous products. 1, record 63, English, - aqueous%20pyrolysis

1, record 65, French, - pr%C3%A9balayage

Gas turbine engines for aircraft come in many types and sizes, each of which has its advantages and also its limitations. The most common type is the uncomplicated turbojet, similar to the typical jet engine described earlier. Because it has no added features such as a fan, propeller, of free turbine, this kind of turbojet is sometimes referred to as straight jet engine. The alternatives for nitrogen oxide control are boiler operation changes, combustion equipment modifications to reduce NOx formation, and flue gas treatment... In the U. S. and Canada, combustion modification(CM) is the most common method of NOx reduction. NOx can be reduced by injecting the combustion air in two stages, normally by reducing air flow to the burner and injecting the remainder through "overfire" air ports in the side of the boiler. Low-NOx burners that accomplish staged conditions within the burner flame have also been developed. Staged combustion... reduces emission by 15-25%. 2, record 68, English, - low%2DNOx%20burner

1, record 68, French, - br%C3%BBleur%20%C3%A0%20faible%20taux%20d%27%C3%A9missions%20de%20NOx
