GAS PLAY [6 records]

Record 1 2021-07-14

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Deposits
  • Bitumen and Bituminous Shales
DEF

[A shale formation] containing significant accumulations of natural gas ...

CONT

Shale-gas resource plays may be extremely tight (low permeability) to highly fractured, with variable bulk mineralogical composition controlling the brittle versus ductile nature of the shale.

OBS

The resource is considered a resource play, [when] gas is pervasively distributed through the geologically defined play area. Thus, success at discovering the resource with a well is 100 per cent.

Key term(s)
  • shale-gas play
  • shale-gas zone

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gisements pétrolifères
  • Exploitation des schistes bitumineux
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Anti-pollution Measures
  • Exhaust Systems (Motor Vehicles)
CONT

Two thirds of respondents... recognized that emission control devices play an important role in reducing the amount of pollution caused by motor vehicles. Another 56 per cent understood that the use of leaded gas reduces the ability of these devices to decrease pollution.

OBS

antipollution device: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures antipollution
  • Échappement (Véhicules automobiles)
OBS

Record 3 2017-01-24

English

Subject field(s)
  • National Bodies and Committees (Canadian)
  • Electric Power Stations
OBS

The Canadian Clean Power Coalition(CCPC) is an association of responsible, leading Canadian and American electricity producers. The CCPC believes that coal, along with a diverse mix of fuels like hydro, natural gas, wind, solar and nuclear, will play an important role in meeting the energy needs of the future.

OBS

The CCPC was created in 2000 to ensure that environmental public policy decisions recognize Canada’s vast coal resources as an important Canadian asset. Today, CCPC is advancing the technologies needed to build cleaner, more efficient, more economical coal-fueled power plants.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Petroleum Deposits
DEF

A geological play that is thought to exist or has been shown to exist, but has not been proven by the drilling of oil or gas wells to be capable of production.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Gisements pétrolifères
DEF

English

Subject field(s)
  • Anti-pollution Measures
  • Climate Change
CONT

The trace element iron has been recently shown to play a critical role in nutrient utilization, phytoplankton growth and therefore the uptake of carbon dioxide from the surface waters of the global ocean. Carbon fixation in the surface waters, via phytoplankton growth, shifts the ocean/atmosphere exchange equilibrium for carbon dioxide. As a result, levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide(a greenhouse gas) and iron flux to the oceans have been linked to climate change(glacial to interglacial transitions). These recent findings have led some to suggest that large scale iron fertilization of the world's oceans may therefore be a feasible strategy for controlling climate.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures antipollution
  • Changements climatiques
CONT
