English

Subject field(s)
  • Mechanical Components
CONT

Bladder accumulators feature a non-pleated, flexible rubber bladder housed within a steel shell. The open end of the bladder is attached to the pre-charging valve at the gas end of the shell. A poppet valve prevents the bladder from extruding through the hydraulic port.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Composants mécaniques
CONT

To light the pilot, [one must] hold down the button on the gas valve to start the flow of gas to the pilot burner. By holding the button down, [one is] allowing gas into the valve and, at the same time, blocking the flow of gas to the main burner outlet port while allowing it to flow to the pilot burner through a pilot tube coming from the gas valve body.

OBS

... Winefordner et al. described a special, more sensitive cell based on changes in dielectric constant and constructed to allow gas flow between the plates of a capacitor which is a part of the tank circuit of a 70-Mc/sec Clapp oscillator, the output of which is beat against that of a reference oscillator. With the difference frequency between oscillators adjusted to zero with pure carrier gas flowing through the detector, the presence of a foreign vapor in the cell will produce a different frequency which is linearly related to the amount of material introduced through an injection port in the carrier gas stream and inversely proportional to the absolute temperature for a given component at a constant density or concentration in the cell and for a particular operating frequency.

DEF

A gas burner in which the gas is delivered from the side(s) of the combustion chamber, resulting in a horizontal flame.

CONT

Inshot burners have become the dominant burner in North American residential gas furnaces, according to the American Gas Association. The burners have a single port, and fire into a pipelike heat exchanger. They differ markedly from older designs that had multiple burner ports with two-part heat exchangers, known as clamshells. Inshot burners have resulted in smaller furnace cabinets, a handy feature when remodeling a basement.

CONT

... the Multi-Port In-Shot Burners ... actually shape the flame cone to produce maximum heat with minimum fuel usage, and the heat exchanger is serpentine-shaped to provide maximum heat transfer.

OBS

Modern furnaces make use of four different types of main gas burners. These burners are : 1) drilled port; 2) slotted port; 3) ribbon; 4) inshot.... usually the drilled pot burner is made of cast iron. The others are made by forming steel into the desired shape.... The burner head is the top part of the burner. It is here that the ports are placed that determine the type of burners(drilled port, slotted port, ribbon, or inshot).... The burners parts are openings that release the gas and air mixture into the combustion chamber.

OBS

inshot burner: term officially approved by the Lexicon Project Committee (New Brunswick).

CONT

India will need to triple its oil production over the next 15 years to meet the growing demand. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has estimated that to meet the projected oil demand of the early 21st century, an investment of $US 100-150 billion will be needed over the next 15 years. Distribution infrastructure, such as cross-country pipelines, port terminals, and tankages will have to be developed on a massive scale to meet the projected oil requirements.

DEF

A device by means of which a liquid or gaseous sample is introduced directly into the chromatographic column or is swept into the column by the mobile phase.

CONT

An injection port is necessary in all g. c. [gas chromatography] and h. p. l. c. [high-performance liquid chromatography] systems in which syringe injection is employed. The injection port joins the top of the column to the mobile phase supply line, and has a third outlet through a small orifice covered by a self-sealing septum. Injection of samples is done by inserting the hypodermic syringe containing the sample through this septum so that the point of the needle is immediately above the head of the column. Design of the injection port must be such that it can be maintained at a uniform temperature and will possess a very small dead volume.

CONT
