Electrospray ionization (ESI) is a technique to generate ions for mass spectrometry using electrospray by applying a high voltage to a liquid to produce an aerosol. ... ESI overcomes the tendency of [the] molecules to fragment upon ionization. ... ESI applies a high voltage at the outlet of the capillary, and the high electric field generated atomizes the liquid flowing out of the capillary into tiny charged droplets. As the solvent evaporates, the charge intensity on the surface of the droplet gradually increases, and finally the droplet splits into one or a plurality of charged ions, allowing the analyte to enter the gas phase in the form of a single charge or multiple charges and become a gas phase ion. 1, record 1, English, - electrospray%20ionization

APCI is a mode of ionization that is similar to ESI [electrospray ionization] in that ionization takes place at atmospheric pressure, entails nebulization and desolvation, and incorporates an interface design, which is similar to that of ESI. A key difference between APCI and ESI is that ESI is based on ions that are formed in solution, whereas APCI uses ions that are formed in the gas phase. In APCI, instead of high voltage being applied to the inlet capillary, mobile phase from the separation device is evaporated within a heater, and the vapor passes a needle with an applied current, which generates a corona discharge for the formation of stable reaction ions. 3, record 2, English, - atmospheric%20pressure%20chemical%20ionization

3, record 3, French, - distillation%20membranaire%20%C3%A0%20entra%C3%AEnement%20gazeux

To be an analytical biochemist, you must be curious, meticulous, and driven to discover. Analytical biochemists are proficient at advanced biochemical techniques such as liquid or gas chromatography—isolating the components of a sample for further investigation. Another technique commonly used by analytical biochemists is liquid-liquid extraction—a technique that uses liquids with different properties to separate contents of a solution for collection and analysis. An analytical biochemist will typically examine and manipulate various samples with the goals of identifying a sample's components and determining how the individual components can be used for further discovery of new or significant compounds. 2, record 4, English, - analytical%20biochemist

Electrolysis is the process by which ionic substances are broken down into simpler substances using electricity. During electrolysis, metals and gases may form at the electrodes. …To understand electrolysis, you need to know what an ionic substance is. Ionic substances form when a metal reacts with a non-metal. They contain charged particles called ions. For example, sodium chloride forms when sodium reacts with chlorine. It contains positively charged sodium ions and negatively charged chloride ions. Ionic substances can be broken down by electricity. … For electrolysis to work, the ions must be free to move. Ions are free to move when an ionic substance is dissolved in water or molten(melted). For example, if electricity is passed through copper chloride solution, the copper chloride is broken down to form copper metal and chlorine gas. … Here is what happens during electrolysis : Positively charged ions move to the negative electrode during electrolysis. They receive electrons and are reduced. Negatively charged ions move to the positive electrode during electrolysis. They lose electrons and are oxidised. … So the electrolysis of copper chloride solution produces copper at the negative electrode. But the electrolysis of sodium chloride solution produces hydrogen. 2, record 19, English, - copper%2Dchloride%20electrolysis

Both of these are soluble solids, which means they can dissolve when put in water. When these two soluble salts dissociate, they form carbon dioxide(a gas), which is released from the water, and calcium and magnesium carbonate. These two compounds are not soluble and are therefore taken out of solution. In dealing with reactions in solution it is important to distinguish between collisions and encounters. In the gas phase when two molecules collide without reacting they at once separate, but in solution they may not separate immediately because of the cage of surrounding molecules. As a result there may be a group of collisions, such a group being called an encounter. The caging-in of solute molecules is known as the cage effect or the Franck-Rabinowitch effect. 1, record 24, English, - encounter

First, the beets are cleaned in a beet washer. Then, a machine called a slicer is used to cut the beets into long strips that look like shoestring potatoes or noodles. The beet noodles are sent through a machine called a diffuser or extractor. Hot water is mixed with the beets to dissolve and remove the sugar from the beet noodles. The water and sugar juice are saved, and this solution is called "raw juice. "... The raw juice is treated with lime and carbon dioxide gas to clean the mixture again. It is sent through a big, round filter to clean it and remove other non-sugars. The raw juice goes into a series of big tanks called evaporators where some of the water is boiled off. At this point, the mixture contains more sugar than water. It is a thick-like syrup and is again filtered to make sure it is very clean. 3, record 29, English, - raw%20juice

3, record 33, French, - carbonate%20m%C3%A9thylique%20de%20m%C3%A9thoxymagn%C3%A9sium

The mechanics of MEOR at a molecular level are really quite simple, but must be thoroughly understood to assess both the efficiency and the efficacy of the process. The microbes in MEOR are simply hydrocarbon-utilizing, non-pathogenic microorganisms which are endemic to, and are naturally-occurring in petroleum reservoirs. What this means is, they naturally exist in reservoirs, are safe for plants, animals and humans, and ingest hydrocarbons as a food source which they metabolize. As a result of this "digestive" process, they then excrete bio-products such as alcohols, gases, acids, surfactants and polymers, which because of their origin are all natural and non-toxic.... Changes in the Crude [:] The gases excreted by the microorganisms go immediately into solution in the crude, making it a solution gas drive reservoir once again. The gases, solvents and weak acids cause a reduction in the viscosity and the pour point of the crude, and an increase in its API(or specific) gravity. These three changes cause the oil to be thinner and to flow more freely. Some of the microorganisms inhibit the activity of SRB's, or sulfate-reducing bacteria, which also occur naturally in reservoirs, but cause corrosion in metal parts and produce the deadly H2S(hydrogen sulfide) gas. Changes in the Reservoir Rock [:] The surfactants, acids and solvents clean out the paraffin wax and the heavy crude depositions in the pores of the rock improving the permeability and partially restoring the original porosity of the rock. The polymers help modify the permeability of the rock by reducing the size of the molecules of reservoir fluids, and help prevent and control water-coning problems. The acids, solvents, alcohols and surfactants remove metal traces from the poral throats of the rock, helping to restore the original porosity and permeability of the reservoir rock. 3, record 37, English, - microbial%20enhanced%20oil%20recovery

In dealing with reactions in solution it is important to distinguish between collisions and encounters. In the gas phase when two molecules collide without reacting they at once separate, but in solution they may not separate immediately because of the cage of surrounding molecules. Preparation of bleach chemicals. All conventional bleaching chemicals can be produced from air, water and brine(NaCl solution) utilizing varying amounts of energy. Since the raw materials are cheap, it follows that manufacturing costs are mainly a function of how much energy is expended. Oxygen. Two systems are utilized for oxygen generation : cryogenic air separation and absorption-based separation.... The adsorption-based oxygen plant yields a gas product and is suitable only for onsite generation.... adsorption systems separate air at ambient temperatures using molecular sieve adsorbents. The adsorbent picks up nitrogen and other impurities at the system feed pressure, while the product oxygen passes straight through the bed. After the bed is saturated with nitrogen, it is regenerated by lowering the pressure to release the adsorbed components. Adsorption processes are cyclical, and multiple beds are used to maintain continuous oxygen production. 1, record 60, English, - adsorption%2Dbased%20separation

Hydrolysis with Hydrogen Chloride Gas.... A variation of the use of concentrated hydrochloric acid combined with hydrogen chloride is the process of Hereng. Here, wood chips are impregnated with 30% hydrochloric acid in a mixer and then transferred by a conveyor into the reactor. Because the chips are not predried, the acid concentration in them is reduced to 20%. The reactor consists of a hexagonal upright vessel equipped with numerous inclined trays. The impregnated wood is moved from the top toward the bottom by means of a vibrator and thus the prehydrolysis is completed after 45 minutes. The acid, containing chiefly pentoses, is filtered off and part of it is returned to the mixer. In this way, the sugar concentration in the prehydrolyzate is increased to about 20% to 25%. In a second step, the material, which has again been mixed with 30% hydrochloric acid, is passed through the reactor and hydrogen chloride gas is injected at the bottom in a countercurrent. In this way, the acid concentration is increased to 40% to 41% or more. The hydrolyzed material is conveyed from the bottom of the reactor to a drying chamber and is dried there with anhydrous hydrogen chloride gas which has previously been passed through a calcium chloride solution. The hydrolyzed material, consisting of lignin and sugar, is extracted with water and the sugar solution is subjected to a posthydrolysis. 1, record 61, English, - Hereng%20process
