GAS STOVE [5 records]

Record 1 2018-03-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Incubators and Hatcheries
  • Poultry Production
CONT

When a farmer buys baby chicks in early spring, it is cold outdoors. Since the chicks are only one day old and are born with the instinct of crowding under the mother hen's wings to keep warm, they look for a place to keep warm.... The brooder stove is a substitute for the brooder hen. By means of electricity or natural gas, it gives off heat and the chicks crowd under it for warmth.

The central wood furnace is a third alternative to conventional oil, gas or electric heating. Unlike the wood stove, it is a device designed to take on the larger fraction of the home heat load, although a back-up source-for example, an electric plenum heater-will generally be added on... recently developed furnaces use wood chips or pellets rather than firewood, to allow for a much easier distribution and loading of the fuel.

Domaine(s)
  • Fumisterie et brûleurs
CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Furnaces and Ovens (Metallurgy)
CONT

A tall iron cylinder lined with firebrick and packed inside with chequer brickwork. The hot gas from the blast furnace, which contains about 28% combustible constituents, together with sufficient air to burn it, passes through the stove until the brickwork is heated to redness. The gas and air are then diverted to a second stove, where the same thing is allowed to occur. Meanwhile the air-blast to the tuyères is passed through the hot brickwork of the firststove, until the brickwork has cooled. The air-blast is thus pre-heated to a temperature of from 700 °C to 800 °C. Cowper stoves work in pairs and are alternatively used to absorb and to emit heat.

DEF
