The sudden failure of walls or pillars in a mine caused by the weight or pressure of the surrounding rocks, and accompanied by a violent release of energy. 7, record 3, English, - rock%20burst
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Rock bursts. In areas of very deep mining, as additional weight is supported by the pillars on the coal face, stresses may so build up that the yield point is reached. If the coal pillars, the roof, or the floor are able to yield gradually, the effects of the stresses are relieved by floor heaving, or by pillar or roof failure. Where the coal or the associated rocks are particularly strong and depths are much above average, these stresses may be relieved by rock bursts, which are relatively violent outbursts of the coal into the rooms and entries. Frequently, a large volume of gas(usually methane) is suddenly released during a rock burst in a coal mine. 8, record 3, English, - rock%20burst
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 1 OBS
for "coal burst" : Rock bursts and "coal bursts" in coal mines are generally designated by the term "bumps" or "bounces". A large proportion of these "bumps" or "bounces" are actually "coal bursts" due to fracturing of pillars and remnants and need not involve any fracturing of roof or floor rock. 4, record 3, English, - rock%20burst
Record number: 3, Textual support number: 2 OBS
for "air blast" : In former years rock bursts were sometimes referred to as "air blasts". This name originated from the fact that large quantities of rock loosened by some of the larger rock bursts displaced quantities of air, with the result that a blast of air passed through the mine workings. 4, record 3, English, - rock%20burst

Thermionic or Electron Impact Detector. In 1957, Ryce and Bryce described a sensitive ionization gauge based on the ionization potentials of vapors. It comprised a filament, a grid, and a plate. The potential difference between the filament and grid accelerated electrons which may ionize any gas in their path. If the grid potential is maintained at a level insufficient to ionize the helium carrier gas... no current flows in the plate circuit. If a potential difference of 18 V is maintained between the filament and the grid, compounds of lower ionization potential in the helium will be ionized and the positive ions produced will yield a cathode current, the current noted being a measure of the ion concentration. Into the modified ionizing chamber, operated at reduced pressure, a small fraction of the column effluent gas stream(less than 0. 5%) was allowed to flow into the gauge through a controlled leak. Over a 0. 02-l. 5 mm Hg pressure range, the sensitivity was approximately proportional to the pressure, and sensitivities in the range of 10[ minus superscript 12] mole were claimed. 1, record 11, English, - electron%20impact%20detector

spouted bed gasifier.... a single-chamber air-fed gasifier operated on a cyclical basis, to yield a high calorific-value gas essentially uncontaminated by carbon dioxide or nitrogen. Wood chips or wood pellets are fed on top of a bed of hot sand in the reactor, and are then mixed by spouting the bed using steam. Some gasification occurs during this phase, but most takes place during the ensuing "cooking" phase during which the bed is static. When the temperature has fallen to a suitably low value air is admitted to burn the char and raise the temperature of the sand to its original value. Wood is then added to begin a new cycle. 1, record 13, English, - spouted%2Dbed%20gasifier

Latex bearing plants of the Euphorbiaceae family usually contain, in addition to rubber, important levels of highly reduced constituents. However the molecular weight of these products is too high to allow for a direct use as fuels and/or feedstocks. We examined the pyrolysis of the latex and of the heptanic extract of Euphorbia tirucalli, a species commonly growing in East Africa. Pyrolyses were carried out under an inert gas flow, in the absence or in the presence of various zeolites.... The zeolitic catalysts-improve the yield of volatile products from the extract-influence the relative abundance of the volatile constituents of the pyrolysates-strongly increase the hydrocarbon level, especially from latex, in the low and medium volatility fraction. 1, record 14, English, - zeolitic%20catalyst
