GASEOUS EFFLUENT [3 records]

Record 1 2017-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
  • Water Treatment (Water Supply)
CONT

The BIOLIFTTM process uses the technique of fixed bacteria on a fluidized bed. The purifying biomass is caught on grains of sand which are maintained in fluidization by an upward air flow. The reactor is situated downstream of an activated sludge tank and ensures nitrification of the effluent. At its outlet a recirculation loop channels some of the mixed liquor back to the activated sludge tank-head where the nitrates are broken down into gaseous nitrogen(denitrification). The remaining mixed liquor is channelled towards the clarification stage where the purified water is separated from the sludge.

OBS

fixed bacterium: term usually used in the plural (fixed bacteria).

Key term(s)
  • fixed bacteria

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
  • Traitement des eaux
DEF

OBS

bactérie fixée : terme habituellement utilisé au pluriel (bactéries fixées).

Key term(s)
  • bactéries fixées

English

Subject field(s)
  • Wastewater Treatment
OBS

extended aeration : a modification of the activated sludge process which provides for aerobic sludge digestion within the aeration system. The process includes the stabilization of organic matter under aerobic conditions and disposal of the gaseous end products into the air. Effluent contains finely divided suspended matter and soluble matter.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
CONT

The pollution in the effluent and the oxygen in the air spread through the biological film to the assimilating micro-organism, while conversely the by-products and the carbon dioxide are eliminated in the liquid and gaseous fluids.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
CONT
