The BIOLIFTTM process uses the technique of fixed bacteria on a fluidized bed. The purifying biomass is caught on grains of sand which are maintained in fluidization by an upward air flow. The reactor is situated downstream of an activated sludge tank and ensures nitrification of the effluent. At its outlet a recirculation loop channels some of the mixed liquor back to the activated sludge tank-head where the nitrates are broken down into gaseous nitrogen(denitrification). The remaining mixed liquor is channelled towards the clarification stage where the purified water is separated from the sludge. 2, record 2, English, - fixed%20bacterium

Chemical looping combustion(CLC) is a novel method for facilitating CO2 separation from flue gases. The process is composed of two fluidized reactors, an air and a fuel reactor, as shown in Figure 1. 2. The fuel is introduced to the fuel reactor in a gaseous form where it reacts with an oxygen carrier to CO2 and H2O. The reduced oxygen carrier is transported to the air reactor, where it is oxidized back to its original state by air. As for the oxy-fuel combustion process, Nox formation is eliminated as oxygen is supplied to the combustor in the form of a metal oxide without any nitrogen present, also giving pure co2 out. The principle of the CLC process is the same as for the oxy-fuel process, where pure oxygen is supplied to the combustor, and it has the same absorption-regeneration nature of post-combustion. 4, record 5, English, - Ca%2Dbased%20looping%20cycle

The Microgravity Science Glovebox(MSG) is a joint development project between NASA and the European Space Agency(ESA). The double rack unit is a versatile research facility designed to permit the flexibility of crew-manipulated investigations. Its configuration has been planned around the concept of an experimental workstation where a variety of experiments can be installed and operated in a fashion very similar to their operation in a ground-based laboratory.... Specifically, the facility provides a large enclosed work volume, power, video, photography, vacuum connections, heat rejection, stowage, filtered air, gaseous nitrogen, lighting, airlock access, physical positioning and hold-down attachments, and computer data acquisition and control capabilities. 3, record 9, English, - microgravity%20science%20glovebox

The MSG [Microgravity Science Glovebox] is a containment facility designed for supporting a wide range of microgravity science investigations and demonstrations.

Semiconductive Thin Film Detector. Using the known principle that the adsorption and desorption of gases cause a change in electrical conductivity of semiconductors, Seiyama et al. developed a new chromatographic detector for gaseous components.... The current, depending upon the resistance of the film, is converted to voltage by the variable resistance, which is fed without amplification to a recorder. Resistance also adjusts the input voltage of the recorder at desired sensitivity. Using zinc oxide as an example of a typical film material, the conductivity of its film maintains a fixed value when the nitrogen carrier gas is passed at a constant flow rate throught the borosilicate glass tube. When a small amount of another gas or vapor is added to the carrier gas, its conductivity is changed. 1, record 15, English, - semiconductive%20thin%20film%20detector

To maximize isotopic exchange, it is very important that the [hydrogen sulphide] in the units be maintained at a very high purity(99. 5%). Unfortunately, the natural water, although treated, still contains small quantities of dissolved oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and other gases. If not removed continuously, these gases would accumulate and decrease the [hydrogen sulphide] purity. A continuous gas purge is drawn from the top of each firs stage cold tower and send to the purge tower where the [hydrogen sulphide] is absorbed by the incoming water. The gaseous impurities proceed from the purge tower to the absorber where any remaining [hydrogen sulphide] is absorbed. The gases, essentially [hydrogen sulphide] free, are then flared. The flare is used in this case to burn any [hydrogen sulphide] that might not have been absorbed. 1, record 21, English, - gaseous%20impurity

The conversion of these nitrates to gaseous nitrogen implies a further denitrification stage. There are several possible ways of achieving this :... changing the state of the mixed liquor from aerobiosis to anaerobiosis before clarification, passing it through a shallow lagoon where algae develop, using this form of nitrogen as a metabolite. 1, record 22, English, - denitrification%20stage

1, record 22, French, - stade%20de%20d%C3%A9nitrification
