GASEOUS POLLUTION [5 records]

Record 1 2016-05-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Anti-pollution Measures
  • Air Pollution
CONT

The emphasis of this article is air pollution control technology as it is designed to remove particulate and gaseous pollutants from the emissions of stationary sources, including power plants and industrial facilities.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mesures antipollution
  • Pollution de l'air
Key term(s)
  • technologie anti-émission

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
  • Scientific Instruments
  • Electromagnetism
CONT

Infrared Analyzers : Organic molecules, in general, contain interatomic valence bonds which exhibit characteristic resonance frequencies. These can be identified in the absorption spectrum of the material in gaseous form. Such information can be used to study the structure of complex molecules. In addition to research, infrared analyzers are used extensively for process quality control [e. g. in pollution control, in food technology].

  • Électromagnétisme
OBS

Record 3 2012-02-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Atmospheric Physics
  • Air Pollution
DEF

Air (relatively) devoid of solid, liquid or gaseous pollutant materials.

CONT

The composition of air is variable with respect to several of its components(e. g., CH4, CO2, H2O) so "pure" air has no precise meaning; it is commonly considered to be air which is free of dust, [hydrometeors, ] aerosols, and reactive gaseous contaminants of anthropogenic origin [such as industrial effluents].... Relative clean air which is free of most reactive anthropogenic pollution(NO, NO2, SO2, non-methane hydrocarbons, etc.), often used as a reference sample in the calibration and operation of instruments, is purchased under the designation of zero air.

CONT

[The] so-called "pure" air is a mixture of gases containing about 78 percent nitrogen; 21 percent oxygen; less than 1 percent of carbon dioxide, argon, and other inert gases; and varying amounts of water vapor.

OBS

air: The mixture of gases comprising the earth’s atmosphere.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique de l'atmosphère
  • Pollution de l'air
DEF

DEF

Aire (relativamente) exento de materiales contaminantes sólidos, líquidos o gaseosos.

Record 4 1990-01-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Pollutants
CONT

Fluorines occur as either gaseous or solid emissions of such industrial processes as the manufacture of fertilizer and aluminum, iron ore smelting, and ceramics production. Airborne fluorides can damage vegetation, with some plants concentrating and accumulating these fluorides, and the livestock eating the plants as forage can become ill.(...) Close to an industrial source of fluoride pollution however, many may be subjected to eye and skin irritation, inflammation of the respiratory tract, and breathing difficulties.

OBS

Fluoridated water is credited with reducing the occurrence of dental decay in children. In excess quantities, fluorine may be a water pollutant, appearing in industrial waste water. It may also be an air pollutant resulting from manufacturing processes. Fluorides are phytotoxic.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Agents de pollution
DEF

Record 5 1982-03-22

English

Subject field(s)
  • Microbiology and Parasitology
CONT

The pollution in the effluent and the oxygen in the air spread through the biological film to the assimilating micro-organism, while conversely the by-products and the carbon dioxide are eliminated in the liquid and gaseous fluids.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Microbiologie et parasitologie
CONT
