To do a gastric bypass, the surgeon makes a small pouch, called a gastric pouch, in the upper part of the stomach. The pouch is about the size of an egg or golf ball. Restrictive gastric operations, such as vertical banded gastroplasty(VGB), serve only to restrict and decrease food intake and do not interfere with the normal digestive process. In this procedure the upper stomach near the esophagus is stapled vertically to create a small pouch along the inner curve of the stomach. The outlet from the pouch to the rest of the stomach is restricted by a band made of special material. 3, record 11, French, - gastroplastie%20verticale%20calibr%C3%A9e

Biliopancreatic diversion is primarily a malabsorptive procedure. The standard procedure involves the removal of part of the stomach(a limited horizontal gastrectomy) to limit oral intake and induce weight loss. The gastric pouch that is created is larger than that of gastric bypass or the restrictive procedures, therefore allowing larger meals, and patients remain on a less restricted diet than would the case following gastric bypass. Part of the small intestine is also bypassed by the construction of a long limb Roux-en-Y anastomosis with a short common "alimentary" channel of 50 cm length. 5, record 16, English, - biliopancreatic%20diversion

A Roux limb may be formed in multiple different gastrointestinal surgeries, including bariatric surgery, e. g. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass [and] biliopancreatic diversion... In these procedures, the small bowel is divided at some point. This leaves two components of small bowel : a proximal component connected to the stomach, pancreas, and biliary system [and] a distal component connected to the terminal ileum and colon. The end of the distal component is dragged up and connected(anastomosed) to the remnant stomach... This is the Roux limb. Gastric bypass is one common type of weight-loss surgery. During bypass surgery, the top of the stomach is changed into a small gastric pouch. A loop of your small intestine is cut, and one end of the loop is brought up and is connected to the gastric pouch. This connection is one anastomosis. The other end of the small intestine loop is reconnected to the small intestine, further down. This is another anastomosis. Food is then redirected to an area farther down in your digestive system. It bypasses the stomach. Because food will now bypass your stomach, your body does not absorb as many calories. 4, record 20, English, - Roux%2Den%2DY%20gastric%20bypass

Apnea, obstructive and central, also has been associated with aspiration of gastric contents. Laryngospasm is manifest as obstructive apnea secondary to reflux. Classically, obstructive apnea occurs within 1 hour after a feed when a patient suddenly stops, becomes apneic, stares, and develops a rigid opisthotonic posture. Continued ineffective respiratory effort is observed, but coughing or gagging is not necessarily present. If this progresses, pallor, cyanosis, and possible hypotonia ensue. The complete obstruction of the larynx impedes air movement, causing an obstructive picture. 6, record 24, English, - obstructive%20apnea

An esophageal obturator airway [or] EOA is a semi-flexible large-bore tube approximately 30 cm in length, with 19 holes in the shaft and an inflatable cuff. A soft face mask is attached to one end and the other end is closed. The airway was designed for personnel who are not authorized to place endotracheal tubes. One of the distinct advantages is that it can be inserted blindly through the mouth without having to visualize the larynx. It is also helpful in the prevention of gastric regurgitation. The disadvantages are that the tracheo-bronchial tree cannot be adequately suctioned and there is the possibility of esophageal rupture when the cuff is inflated too fully. 5, record 32, English, - esophageal%20obturator%20airway

The inner surface of the stomach is lined by a mucous membrane known as the gastric mucosa. The mucosa is always covered by a layer of thick mucus that is secreted by tall columnar epithelial cells. Gastric mucus is a glycoprotein that serves two purposes : the lubrication of food masses in order to facilitate movement within the stomach and the formation of a protective layer over the lining epithelium of the stomach cavity. This protective layer is a defense mechanism the stomach has against being digested by its own protein-lyzing enzymes, and it is facilitated by the secretion of bicarbonate into the surface layer from the underlying mucosa. 3, record 37, English, - gastric%20mucosa

1, record 52, French, - pompe%20%C3%A0%20proton

Furthermore, the prefixes "ortho-", "meta-" and "para-" should not be used anymore, and their corresponding abbreviations ("o-", "m-", and "p-") will soon be judged to be avoided, if not totally condemned. 2, record 55, English, - menthone

From antiquity, a bitter taste has been associated with drugs, and many medicinal virtues were once attributed to bitters... The true bitters, such as chamomile, gentian, hops, bitter orange, and quassia, increase the gastric and salivary secretions and thus stimulate the taste buds and improve the appetite. However, any further medicinal value is largely psychological, except for the effects produced by the alcoholic content. Bitters, as such, are rarely prescribed in medicine today, but they are used in cookery and in making certain mixed drinks. 3, record 64, English, - bitters
