Subject field(s)
  • Railroad Safety
  • Signalling (Rail Transport)
  • Stationary Equipment (Railroads)
CONT

The most effective [warning] device, introduced in 1936 and improved since, is the automatic short-arm gate working in conjunction with a flashing electric signal... the gate, illuminated by a red light, descends, blocking the right half of the highway, but leaving the left clear so that a car can’t be trapped.

Subject field(s)
  • Target Acquisition
  • Radar, Radio Guidance and Goniometry
CONT

The repeater, which consists of an amplifier and a programmable delay line, amplifies and delays the intercepted signal. By transmitting this signal back to the radar and gradually increasing the delay, the range gate in the radar tracking system can be captured and pulled away from the target echo, thereby producing range deception. This technique is usually referred to as range gate pull off(RGPO).

French

Domaine(s)
  • Acquisition d'objectif
  • Radar, radioguidage et radiogoniométrie
CONT

CONT

Audio noise gate... Eliminates the signal if its runs amplitude falls below a specified threshold. A dely buffer is incorporated to give the noise-gate a "look-ahead" capability, improving its effectiveness in some situations.

CONT

The new Noise Gate is everything a pro sound designer could wish for. Besides standard parameters like Threshold, Attack, and Release, the Hold time and Hysteresis(distance between open and close threshold) parameters will give you complete control over any signal. Thanks to the filters in the monitorable sidechain, you can even split heavily cross talking toms. The Lookahead control should end the debate between "analog vs. digital". This is a superior tool that no sound designer will want to live without...

Subject field(s)
  • Television (Radioelectricity)
CONT

The horizontal and vertical sync pulses that form part of the composite video signal are separated in the sync separator. The composite video signal is either taken from the video detector output or after one stage of video amplification. A sync separator is a clipper that is suitably biased to produce output, only during sync pulse amplitude of the video signal. In some receivers, a noise gate precedes the sync separator. This suppresses strong noise pulses if present in the video signal.
