Since 1911, when the variety OAC21 was licensed, six-rowed barleys have dominated malting barley production in Canada. Since 1929, most six-rowed varieties eligible for top grades of barley have been identified by a distinctive blue aleurone colour. Ac Harper was developed from a cross between a scald resistant backcross line of Galt and BT364, which has high grain yield and strong straw. It has a combination of high yield potentiel, good resistance to lodging, short straw, and resistance to scald. AC Harper has improved kernel plumpness, protein content, and kernel colour compared to the feed check, Brier.

The National Technology Index(NTI) is a newly-approved pilot project of Strategis, Industry Canada's business information World Wide Web service, to assist provincial and federal laboratories, universities and centres of excellence to market their technology commercialization opportunities. It has been developed with the technical assistance of the Canadian Institute for Scientific and Technical Information(CISTI) and is a joint initiative between Industry Canada product line managers for the Canadian Technology Gateway, Trans-Forum, and dISTCovery, as well as the Waterloo Innovation Centre. The NTI has been designed to replace traditional high-maintenance databases with a powerful distributed search engine capable of scanning and retrieving technology opportunity documents located at sites across the World Wide Web. A pilot is currently underway which includes participants from provincial and federal laboratories and universities.

L'Index National de technologie (INT) est un projet pilote nouvellement approuvé par Strategis, service de renseignements sur les entreprises canadiennes du Web, pour assister les laboratoires provinciaux et fédéraux, les universités et les centres d'excellence à mettre sur le marché leurs possibilités technologiques de commercialisation. L'index a été développé avec l'aide technique de l'Institut canadien de l'information scientifique et technique (ICIST) et une initiative conjointe de la part des gestionnaires des produits d'Industrie Canada pour la Voie d'accès à la technologique canadienne, Trans-Forum, et dISTCovery, ...; L'INT a été conçu afin de remplacer la traditionnelle maintenance de bases de données avec une puissante interface d'interrogation capable d'explorer et extraire les documents de possibilités technologiques situés sur les sites du Web. Un projet pilote est actuellement en cours et il inclut les participants des laboratoires provinciaux et fédéraux et des universités.
