The Global Analysis and Institutions Division is responsible for monitoring trends, gathering information and intelligence, conducting analyses, and producing reports for Canadian small-to-medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) to support their entry and success in global markets. Information gathered is also shared with colleagues in other parts of AAFC [Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada], including but not limited to, Canada Brand, Bilateral Relations and Technical Trade(U. S. Team), Strategic Policy Branch, MISB [Market and Industry Services Branch] Regional Offices, the Value Chain Roundtable Secretariat, the Agri-Marketing Program Secretariat and our Trade Commissioners abroad for the purpose of providing advice and analysis that supports policy and regulatory developments, and market and development initiatives.

Gathering-arm loaders... are self propelled and may be mounted on rails, on crawlers, or on rubber tires. The crawler-mounted loader is the most commonly used. It is made up of three main components(a) the gathering head which is thrust into the coal and which is fitted with two rotating arms to sweep the coal onto the conveyor :(b) a chain conveyor which runs down the middle of the machine and carries the coal to the rear; and(c) the crawler chassis which carries a separate motor for each of the crawlers.

Joy presently offers both the chain ripper miners and the rotary drum head-type miners introduced in 1968.... The rotary drum miner... sumps into the coal face at the top of the seam. When the predetermined sumping distance is reached, the head moves downwards breaking out the coal as it progresses. Gathering arms on the loader sweep the fallen coal from the floor on to the chain conveyor where it is carried through the throat of the machine to the rear end of the miner.
