Vitrectomy is a surgical procedure undertaken by a specialist where the vitreous humor gel that fills the eye cavity is removed to provide better access to the retina. This allows for a variety of repairs, including the removal of scar tissue, laser repair of retinal detachments and treatment of macular holes. Once surgery is complete, saline, a gas bubble or silicone oil may be injected into the vitreous gel to help hold the retina in position. 3, record 1, English, - vitrectomy

The slit lamp examination uses a tool that provides a magnified three-dimensional(3-D) view of the parts of the eye. During the examination, your doctor can look at the front parts of the eye. These parts include the clear, outer covering(cornea), the lens, and coloured part(iris). The doctor can also see the front part of the thick fluid(vitreous gel) that fills the large space in the middle of the eye. Special lenses can be placed between the slit lamp and the cornea(or on the cornea) to help the doctor see deeper structures of the eye. These structures include the optic nerve, the retina, and the area where fluid drains out of the eye(drainage angle). 7, record 3, English, - slit%20lamp%20biomicroscopy

2, record 26, French, - Homme%20de%20Clonycavan

Method devised by Brown which is particularly useful when, owing to its chemical nature, insolubilization of an enzyme cannot be achieved by glutaraldehyde crosslinking alone. To eliminate the loss of enzyme activity due to diffusion effects caused by crosslinking, reactions enzymes, at low concentrations, are crosslinked via glutaraldehyde to a nonenzymic protein which is rich in L-lysine residues(such as bovine serum albumin), and the resultant immobilized enzyme can be insolubilized by gel entrapment methods. 2, record 37, English, - co%2Dcrosslinking

The term entrapment has been used to cover a range of immobilization techniques. O’Driscoll has chosen to distinguish between those methods, where a gel or membrane is formed around an enzyme by polymerization and those methods where the enzyme is retained in a preformed polymer by subsequent formation of a cross-linked network. Microencapsulation and fiber entrapment are clearly other examples of this immobilization technique. 3, record 38, English, - fibre%20entrapment

There has been interest in applying nanogels to drug delivery systems, such as protein delivery and gene delivery. In general, chemically cross-linked nanogels are synthesized by microemulsion polymerization or a crosslinking reaction of intra-associated polymer molecules. We develop tailor-made functional nanogels to create novel nanobiomaterials (nanogel engineering) by the self-assembly of functional associating polymers as building blocks. In particular, nanogels of cholesteryl group-bearing pullulan (CHP) selectively interact with proteins as a host and are useful as artificial molecular chaperone and drug carriers such as cancer immune therapy. 3, record 43, English, - nanogel

2, record 44, French, - %C3%A9lectrofocalisation

Heteroduplex is double-stranded DNA in which the two DNA strands do not show perfect base complementarity. When DNA is denatured, the two strands are separated. On renaturation or annealing, complementary DNA strands reassociate and form a homoduplex. However, when there is a mutation in one of the strands then a heteroduplex is formed. The electrophoretic mobility of heteroduplex in polyacrylamide gel is less than that of homoduplex, and they can be detected as an extra slow moving bands. Resolution is better in specially formulated gel matrices(Hydro-link, MDE, etc.). In fragments of under 200 bp insertions, deletions and most single base substitutions are detected. Heteroduplex analysis is mostly used combined with single confirmation analysis(SSCA) on a single gel. 1, record 57, English, - heteroduplex%20analysis

Detergent solubilization has been used with great success to study the major proteins in various membranes. Typically, the membranes are first heated to 100°C in a 1% solution of the strong detergent SDS(which disrupts all non-covalent protein-protein and protein-lipid interactions and completely unfolds the proteins), then layered on top of a polyacrylamide gel containing SDS, and lastly subjected to electrophoresis in a strong electric field for several hours. The amount of anionic SDS bound to protein is roughly equal to the mass of the polypeptide, with the result that the negative charge of the detergent overwhelms the intrinsic charge of the protein. Consequently, each individual protein migrates in the electric field at a rate determined by its molecular weight. 4, record 58, English, - sodium%20dodecyl%20sulphate

4, record 58, French, - dod%C3%A9cyl%20sulfate%20de%20sodium

Differential Display(DD)... and a conceptually similar technique, arbitrarily primed PCR fingerprinting of RNA(APPCR) 19, both PCR amplify subsets of an mRNA population and separate the resulting cDNAs by denaturing polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Since the introduction of DD in 1992, over 100 reports regarding improvements and/or successful applications have been published. Although DD has the appearance of being technically easy, the road from "band on the gel" to a positive can be treacherous as outlined in a recent commentary. The primary criticisms are(1) a high false positive rate,(2) questioned ability of DD to identify both abundant and rare mRNAs,(3) coding regions of mRNAs are usually not cloned, and(4) verification process is time consuming and usually requires a fair amount of RNA. 5, record 61, English, - differential%20display

Liquid gel chromatography(LGC) is an established laboratory technique for the differential fractionation and separation of molecules. The underlying premise for simple LGC is that molecules elute from a gel bed in order of decreasing molecular weight. Generally, gel particles fill a chromatography column to form a bed. When the molecules to be partitioned, such as cells or proteins are introduced and driven through the bed by supplemental eluent, the molecules separate on the basis of molecular weight. 2, record 71, English, - liquid%2Dgel%20chromatography

3, record 78, French, - inclusion%20dans%20une%20matrice

The first experiments on covalent binding of a variety of proteins including enzymes as well as antigens to chemically well defined water-insoluble polymeric supports were limited to the commercial polymers available at the time--derivatized celluloses and styrene polymers.... These first steps were soon followed by other methods of coupling proteins to polymers.... The preparation of a complementary polymeric support is based on modifying the enzyme by an analogue of the monomer and then copolymerizing the resulting preparation with the monomer. This gives an enzyme chemically incorporated into the three-dimensional lattice of the polymer gel, the points of the enzyme-support binding being the centers of premodification of the enzyme molecule. 2, record 100, English, - polymeric%20support
