GELATIN FILM [10 records]

Record 1 2015-04-08

English

Subject field(s)
  • Radiography (Medicine)
  • Dentistry
CONT

Dental film itself is composed of an emulsion, that is, gelatin containing a silver compound coated on a tinted base which is made from a cellulose derivative. The base is about 0. 008 inch thick.(...) The large sheets of emulsion-coated base which is to become dental film are cut to the size used for one of the several types of dental film. It is then either made into a packet for the intraoral work or packaged for extraoral use.

Record 2 2012-05-04

English

Subject field(s)
  • Lithography, Offset Printing and Collotype
DEF

A planographic, photo-mechanical, non-screen printing process often used for fine illustration work.

OBS

[Collotype printing] is done from a glass plate prepared by printing a negative on a gelatin film containing dichromate. Where exposed the gelatin hardens. The hardened parts retain ink whereas the watery parts repel it.

OBS

Albertype was an early version of the collotype process, utilized for printing photographic reproductions in quantity. The various collotype processes were employed commercially from the latter part of the 19th century to the mid 20th century, and were especially suited to reproducing watercolors because of the grain they produced. Eventually these processes were replaced by offset lithography.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Lithographie, offset et phototypie
DEF

DEF

a layer usually made of gelatin, applied to the side of the film base opposite that of the emulsion to prevent curl. It is comparable to the emulsion layer in thickness and is not removed in processing.(Antihalation or other layers removed in processing are excluded from this definition).

DEF

CONT

With the D-HUD, a form of holographic recording is used to produce a thin-film lens, covering the whole area of the curved combining glass.(...) This thin-film lens is produced by the use of a laser which records, photographically, a form of diffraction grating within a layer of gelatin which is coated onto the curved combining glass. After processing, the thin film lens is covered by a second glass layer to form a sandwich, with the "lens" formed by changes in the refractive index of the gelatin layer, providing the effect of a diffraction grating.
