Soroptimist is a global women’s organization whose members volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Approximately 76,000 Soroptimists in over 120 countries and territories support community-based and global projects benefiting women and girls. The organization is particularly concerned with providing women and girls access to education, as this is the most effective path to self-determination. The name, Soroptimist, means "best for women," and that’s what the organization strives to achieve. Soroptimists are women at their best, working to help other women to be their best.

To support the Gender Equality Initiative and help co-ordinate work related to gender equality across the Department, the office of the Senior Advisor has begun a program to broaden Department-wide expertise and understanding of gender equality analysis, through education and the development of analytical approaches. The Advisor is supported by a network of over 50 gender equality specialists who ensure the application of gender equality analysis in their fields. The Advisor also benefits from the contribution of the Advisory Committee on Gender Equality on issues relating to raising awareness in the Department regarding gender equality. The new Policy of the Department of Justice on Gender Equality Analysis was released in June, 1997. A guide to Gender Equality Analysis, entitled Diversity and Justice :Gender Perspectives, was released in August, 1998.

En juin 1997, on a publié la nouvelle Politique du ministère de la Justice sur l'analyse visant l'égalité des sexes. En août 1998, on a publié un guide d'analyse en matière d'égalité des sexes, intitulé La diversité et la justice : perspectives relatives à l'égalité des sexes.
