The computerized First Nations and Inuit Health Information System(FNIHIS) is one of three Health Canada initiatives designed to contribute to the development of a Canadian health "infostructure. "It contains information about status and non-status First Nations and Inuit residents of all provinces who access health services on-reserve. Information includes name, address, gender, date of birth, residency, status, and may include band registration number, provincial health card number, immunization status as well as data pertaining to reportable and chronic diseases, mortality, medication, medication allergy and adverse reaction, test and exams, public education, abuse, maternal, and psycho-social health. The BCNF was established in 1984 to respond to the needs of the community.
