At the urging of the UN Security Council, the Secretary General sent a representative, José Mayobne of Venzuela, to the Dominican Republic to report on the matter. He was accompanied by three observers, one of which was Canadian.

Since the Villers-Cotterêts Edict in 1539, the French language has officially been a component of national identity. Today, the Constitution(article 2) specifies that the language of the Republic is French, while remaining open to the use of other languages. The Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Insular Coastal Dynamics-(ICoD) forms part of a network of specialised Centres pertaining to the Open Partial Agreement of the Council of Europe on Major Natural and Technological Hazards. While the majority of the specialised Centres belonging to the OPA specialise in dealing with geomorphological disasters, those based in Malta and Monaco address marine-related issues. ICoD was established in 1988 within the framework of the "Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Marine Contamination Hazards" where it initially addressed marine degradation in general; it has subsequently re-oriented its objectives and activities towards a greater focus on the interactive processes which occur at the coastal zone and in particular, of insular areas.

The International Military Sports Council, known by its acronym "CISM", is an international sports association composed of the armed forces of member nations accepted by the General Assembly. CISM is open to the armed forces of all nations. The aims of CISM are to develop friendly relations between the Armed Forces of member nations, promote physical education and sports activities, provide mutual technical assistance, support less privileged members in the name of friendship and solidarity, contribute towards the balanced and harmonious development of military personnel, and contribute to the international effort for universal peace. On May 1946, the Allied Forces Sports Council was set up, namely by Colonel Debrus and Major Mollet who were among the founding fathers of CISM two years later. Unfortunately, because of political discord, the Allied Forces Sports Council was extinguished in 1947. However, the ideal was rekindled the following year with the founding of CISM and the rise of a global vision.

Celebrated decision of the Privy Council of Great Britain that women are persons and are eligible to be summoned to the Senate. Five women from Alberta, Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby and Henrietta Edwards petitioned the Supreme Court of Canada and the Privy Council of Great Britain for a ruling on Section 24 of the British North America Act : The Governor General shall... summon qualified persons to the Senate. The landmark decision-the word persons includes members of the male and female sex-was rendered on 18 october 1929 by Lord Chancellor Sankey. The first woman appointed to the Senate was Cairine Wilson in 1930.
