... the general problem with the Riefler clocks... was that, although they were very accurate over short periods, changes in their rates made them of little use for studies extending over several months. This defect was remedied to a great extent in the Shortt clock..., which was invented by the British engineer William Shortt... Like in the Riefler clock, the master pendulum of the Shortt clock was housed in a largely evacuated tube. The master pendulum synchronized the motion of a second "slave" pendulum. The slave pendulum sent electrical signals to the master's drive mechanism and to operate the dialwork on the slave clock. By an elaborate electromechanical feedback the master and slave pendulums kept each other synchronized. 2, record 1, English, - Shortt%20clock

The field of occupier's liability has been complicated further by an overridding distinction between an "activity duty" and an "occupancy duty", which derives from the misfeasance-nonfeasance dichotomy. If an entrant is injured by "current operations" being carried out by the occupier on the land, as opposed to a defect or danger in the condition of the land, the courts will impose the general duty to use reasonable care. This general duty is owed to all persons lawfully on the premises, but it is unclear whether it is also applicable to trespassers whose presence is known or probable. 1, record 6, English, - activity%20duty

1, record 6, French, - devoir%20reli%C3%A9%20%C3%A0%20l%27activit%C3%A9

Irradiation-Induced Stress Corrosion Cracking of Austenitic Stainless Steels. In recent years, failures of reactor internal components have been observed after the components have reached neutron fluence levels... The general pattern of the observed failures indicates that as nuclear plants age and fluence increases, various apparently nonsensitized austenitic stainless steels become susceptible to intergranular failure... Irradiation produces defects and defect clusters in grain matrices and alters the dislocation network, dislocation loop, and dislocation channel structures, leading to radiation-induced hardening. Irradiation also leads to changes in the stability of second-phase precipitates and the local chemistry near grain boundaries, precipitates, and defect clusters. 2, record 7, English, - irradiation%2Dassisted%20stress%20corrosion
