Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. The objective of the government's procurement review policy is to enhance the use of procurement in support of industrial and regional development and other national objectives in a manner that is fully consistent with the government's approved procurement objectives, and with Canada's international commitments within the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade(GATT), the North American Free Trade Agreement(NAFTA) or other trade rights and obligations. The government's approved procurement objectives are in descending order of priority : the pre-eminence of operational requirements, competition, fairness and accessibility as major policy cornerstones of the federal procurement process; long-term industrial and regional development; and other national objectives.

The International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO is the focal point in the United Nations system for technical cooperation with developing countries in trade promotion. ITC was created by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade(GATT) in 1964 and since 1968 has been operated jointly by GATT(now by the World Trade Organization) and the UN, the latter acting through the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development(UNCTAD).

Established in 1959 by the Massey Foundation, The Massey Medal is awarded annually by the Society. Its purpose is to recognize outstanding personal achievement in the exploration, development or description of the geography of Canada. Eligibility is restricted to Canadian citizens, although in special circumstances, the Medal may be awarded to a non-Canadian, subject to agreement by the Massey Foundation. It is always awarded to an individual, never a group. The presentation of the Massey Medal is usually made at Rideau Hall by the Society's Patron, the Governor General, when His Excellency's schedule permits. In years when this is not possible, a special award ceremony is held elsewhere in Ottawa, with the President of the Society presiding.

Integrated Coastal Zone Management(ICZM) is a continuous planning process in which stakeholders and regulators reach general agreement on the best mix of conservation, sustainable resource use and economic development for coastal areas. Goals to be achieved through an ICZM process include : conservation, based on an ecosystem approach, for the purposes of maintaining biological diversity and productivity of coastal environments and preserving ecosystem health; sustainable use of coastal resources; and economic diversification and the generation of wealth for the benefit of all Canadians, but in particular, coastal communities.

The International Maritime Academy(IMA) of Trieste is an international institution in the training field for postgraduate studies. Its courses are aimed at participants with a university degree or equivalent education who already work in the Government structures but need some further training to improve the quality of their work. Students come from all over the world. The working language is English. In march 1988 in Rome, the Italian Foreign Minister, and the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization(IMO), signed an international agreement for the setting up of the International Maritime Academy of Trieste to be funded by the Co-operation and Development Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
