As the name suggests, a multiple-compartment PK [pharmacokinetic] model consists of a central compartment and one or several peripheral compartments, though the compartments do not represent specific anatomical or physiological structures. In general, the central compartment represents plasma(or blood) with or without richly perfused tissues, such as heart, liver, brain, etc.,... and the peripheral compartments represent slowly or less perfused tissues, such as skin, muscle, bone and fat.... In a two-compartment model... upon administration, a substance is introduced into the central compartment that is followed by its distribution between the central and a peripheral compartment; however, equilibration of the concentration of the substance between the two compartments is not anticipated to be achieved instantaneously. Once equilibration is reached, the elimination of the substance is assumed to occur from the central compartment. 4, record 4, English, - two%2Dcompartment%20pharmacokinetic%20model

1. The parameter may be, for example, a standard deviation(or a given multiple of it), or the half-width of an interval having a stated level of confidence. 2. Uncertainty of measurement comprises, in general, many components. Some of these components may be evaluated from the statistical distribution of the results of series of measurements and can be characterized by experimental standard deviations. The other components, which can also be characterized by standard deviations, are evaluated from assumed probability distributions based on experience or other information. 3. It is understood that the result of the measurement is the best estimate of the value of the measurand, and that all components of uncertainty, including those arising from systematic effects, such as components associated with corrections and reference standards, contribute to the dispersion. 3, record 5, English, - uncertainty%20of%20measurement

3, record 5, French, - incertitude%20de%20mesure

The second book of the set of works by the CIDECT [Committee International for the Development and the Study of Tubular construction] under the general title "Construction with Hollow Steel Sections" is dedicated to phenomena of instability : buckling, distortion, spreading. Because of the shape of its section and the particularly favourable distribution of matter in the straight section, a hollow profile, of circular or rectangular shape, behaves distinctly better than an open profile section under the demands of compression. In remaining within the limits of the relation of the diameter or the width of side divided by the thickness of partition, given in this dimensioning guide, the local hollow profile distortion can be disregarded. On the other hand, the resistance to spreading is, in practice, not verified because hollow profiles possess a distinctly larger polar rigidity than open section profiles. 1, record 11, English, - open%20section%20profile

2, record 11, French, - profil%20ouvert

Oil slick dispersants. When oil ... is treated with a suitable surface active agent and agitation applied, the oil is broken up into particles ... so small that they constitute an oil-in-water emulsion ... Dispersants serve to increase the surface area of an oil spill and disperse oil globules throughout the layer volume water. This causes an accelerated degradation of oil by microbiological action. 7, record 14, English, - dispersant
Record number: 14, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The chemicals used to disperse the oil are emulsifiers. Although a chemist would never confuse the terms dispersant and emulsifier, the former designating a product which encourages the distribution of finely divided solids in a fluid, either liquid or gas, the latter referring to a product which encourages the colloidal dispersion of one liquid in another, the terms are synonymous in the field of oil pollution control. This is explained by the following sentence taken from "The Control of oil pollution on the sea and inland waters", edited by J. Wardley-Smith(source COCOB) :"It was found... [that the product] when sprayed on to the oil, effectively softened and dispersed it by means of emulsification... "The dispersion is accomplished by products which emulsify the oil, i. e., emulsifiers. Dispersion is used in its general sense and hence dispersant simply means a product that causes spreading. Also dispersant is used more frequently than emulsifier. 8, record 14, English, - dispersant

Alberta produced a report that provides a snapshot of the status of more than 2800 wild species in the province, entitled The General Status of Alberta Wild Species 2005. The report contains assessments for 2811 species under 10 categories : birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, butterflies, gastropods(e. g., snails), bivalves(e. g., clams), odonates(e. g., dragonflies) and vascular plants(e. g., wild roses). These assessments are based on criteria that include species’ population size, distribution and trends, and threats to habitats. Assessment information is categorized into meaningful groupings, which helps the province identify species that need attention. Species’ status data are used by provincial wildlife and fisheries biologists to plan and set priorities for species’ management activities. These activities may include identifying habitat, monitoring survival and identifying threats. 1, record 19, English, - The%20General%20Status%20of%20Alberta%20Wild%20Species%202005

Record number: 30, Textual support number: 2 CONT
[A] significant adsorptive characteristic is possessed not alone by carbons, charcoal and chars, but also by such materials as zeolite, silica, alumina, mica and some other. All these differ widely in the number and kinds of substances they adsorb, as well as in the amount of sorbed substances they will retain. In general, the silicaneous, metallic oxides and active earth types of adsorbents are electrically polar-that is, their molecular structure contains an unsymmetrical electron distribution. Since polar substances have strong attraction for one another and since water is highly polar, the polar adsorbents mentioned above retain water in preference to most other fluids and are, therefore, incapable of adsorbing non-aqueous gases efficiently from a humid atmosphere. For use in air conservation, however, which requires a sorbent to extract very small quantities of a very numerous variety of gases and vapors from either dry or humid air during a very brief interval of contact, non-polar adsorbents such as specially processed carbon of high activity, dense structure and extreme relative hardness have been found to be adequate. Activated carbon, being non-polar and hence electronically symmetrical in structure, has no particular affinity for moisture and preferentially adsorbs organic gases and vapors. 4, record 30, English, - nonpolar%20adsorbent

This is of course the case if p is the expectation of a Gaussian variable, but Poincaré gives a more general solution, now called Gibbs distribution. This fact was rediscovered independently by Szilard in 1925. Then, around 1935, Koopman, Pitman, and Darmois asked the same question concerning the most general estimation procedure, without being restricted to maximum likelihood. This property of the Gibbs distribution, called sufficiency by statisticians, plays a central role in the Szilard-Mandelbrot axiomatic presentation of statistical thermodynamics.... 1, record 43, English, - Gibbs%20distribution

Dual-microwave ovens direct microwave energy to the food from two different points : in the General Electric from the top and the bottom; in the Litton Moffat from two points in the ceiling of the oven cavity. In this way, their developers hoped to achieve more even energy distribution in every part of the oven cavity(and the food). 1, record 61, English, - dual%2Dmicrowave%20oven
