Reverse engineering is a technique [used for] understanding the structure of a semiconductor device and its functions. In case of an ASIC [application specific integrated circuit] or a custom IC [integrated circuit], that means extracting information about the location of all the transistors and interconnections. In order to succeed, a general knowledge of IC and VLSI [very large scale integration] design is required. All the layers formed during chip fabrication are removed one by one in reverse order and photographed to determine the internal structure of the chip. 2, record 1, English, - reverse%20engineering

The cost functions used within predictive dynamics are similar to those used with optimization-based posture prediction. The goal of these functions is to drive the motion prediction based on minimizing factors, like energy and effort. This minimization must still adhere to all constraints specified for the particular motion. The distinguishing constraint of predictive dynamics is that it incorporates the general equations of motion. These equations describe the dynamics of our world, and attempt to solve for an unknown motion and the forces behind it. 1, record 3, English, - motion%20prediction

By functional thinking we mean the inclination to model phenomena with functions. More specifically, the recognition that certain behaviors in a situation can be described and investigated by constructing and using mathematical functions. Thus, the functions are built for the purpose of investigating some situation and are not given a priori to the students. In addition, the functions so constructed are quite general, not necessarily defined by algebraic expressions, and not necessarily real valued functions of a real variable. 2, record 29, English, - functional%20thinking

The thermal control subsystem is a key system on which the successful performance of the spacecraft ultimately depends. Electronics equipment must operate within a relatively narrow temperature band if proper functioning is to be achieved and thermal failure avoided. This operating temperature range must be maintained in a vehicle that will be exposed to extreme temperature gradients. Heat generated internally must also be managed. Typically, satellites will spin to keep any part of the surface from getting too hot or cold. 3, record 37, English, - thermal%20control

One trained and licensed to prepare, manage, and either prosecute or defend a court action as an agent for another and who also gives advice on legal matters that may or may not require court action. Many of the terms listed above may be used interchangeably depending on the jurisdiction. These titles, and the rank and powers attributed to them, vary significantly from province to province and from state to state, thus necessitating a careful check of the pertinent jurisdiction's usage before choosing a term for a legal text. The following trends may be noted. "Lawyer" is a generic term. "Counsel", frequently used in Canada, may be a general term, or may refer more specifically to a lawyer who can plead in court. A "barrister" is a courtroom lawyer as opposed to a "solicitor" who is basically an office lawyer.(In Canada, both of these functions may be carried out by the same person). In some jurisdictions, "attorney" is used as a synonym of "lawyer", but in others, "attorney" becomes synonymous with "solicitor". Moreover, an "attorney-at-law" may sometimes plead in court. "Advocate" is the general word for a lawyer in Roman law jurisdictions(i. e. Quebec). 3, record 43, English, - lawyer

Dynamic forces will not be taken into consideration, since all movements of the robot are slow. Ideally, in some types of assignments such as feasibility studies, it would be desirable to assign to each key expert of the consultant's team, a counterpart from the executing agency, and released from his functions. 3. 11. 5 In view of the staffing constraints of the executing agencies, the number of counterparts shall be determined on an individual basis depending on the importance of the assignment, and the requirements of the executing agency or the Borrower. 3. 11. 6 The role of the counterpart staff may vary from assignment to assignment, but shall include the following responsibilities and elements : a) through a day-to-day contact with the consultant's experts, benefit from a transfer of skills and thus receive on-the-job training; and b) liaise between the organs of the Borrower and the consultant and assist the latter with data collection, providing it with all available information, documentation and studies on the assignment. 2, record 58, English, - counterpart%20staff

The electronics expert functions at three levels. At the local level of the circuit's components, the electronics expert applies general knowledge of the principles of electronics to propagate quantitative information about voltage and currents across components. These local inferences, expressed as quantitative ranges, are then translated into qualitative assertions for a rule-based system that infers the behavior of the circuit's modules. Finally, at the global level, the electronics expert uses circuit-specific knowledge to analyze the circuit in terms of the behavior of logical modules. 1, record 72, French, - fonction%20drain

In describing personality Jung assumes that both attitudes and all four functions are part of the inherent endowment of all human beings....
