OBS

Existing GIS data models are mostly based on the georelational data modeling approach. The relational data model does not support all the requirements of GISs as geographic reality cannot be captured efficiently with relational data modeling. That deficiency in capturing geographic reality imposes problems in manipulating, analyzing and processing spatial data. An object-oriented data model is more suitable as geographic entities can be represented more naturally. It will allow for a better semantic representation of spatial and attribute data in GISs. Object-oriented data modeling is also of particular importance for developing metadata and standardization in GISs. GIS software that are based on the object-oriented methodology and techniques facilitate simpler mechanisms for software interface, software modification and software extension. The workshop introduces general concepts and principles of object-oriented paradigm and practical considerations in implementing object-oriented GISs. OBS

The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty adopted on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea. Thus, though nowadays the name of the Convention is usually written "Convention on Wetlands(Ramsar, Iran, 1971) ", it has come to be known popularly as the "Ramsar Convention"... The official name of the treaty-The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat-reflects its original emphasis on the conservation and wise use of wetlands primarily to provide habitat for waterbirds. Over the years, however, the Convention has broadened its scope to cover all aspects of wetland conservation and wise use, recognizing wetlands as ecosystems that are extremely important for biodiversity conservation in general and for the well-being of human communities. For this reason, the increasingly common use of the short form of the treaty's title, the "Convention on Wetlands", is entirely appropriate. The Convention entered into force in 1975... UNESCO serves as Depositary for the Convention, but its administration has been entrusted to a secretariat known as the "Ramsar Bureau", which is housed in the headquarters of IUCN-The World Conservation Union in Gland, Switzerland, under the authority of the Conference of the Parties and the Standing Committee of the Convention

CONT

During the tour you can see how the famous Roman Catacombs, the subterranean burialplaces of the first christians in Rome, have been reproduced in the marlstone of Valkenburg. Besides the innumerable amount of tombs you can also admire the beautiful paintings, sculptures, and the perfect examples of subterranean architecture in the chapels and tombs.

CONT

The metro system was not the only Soviet-era piece of underground architecture in the capital to be affected. A huge underground nuclear bunker for government officials including the president and prime minister was also flooded, according to Czech sources.

CONT

Ethical consumption, also known as socially responsible consumption, is a trend where consumers ask questions about the company that produced the goods -- choosing to patronize the companies which have "positive" profiles and avoiding those with "negative" profiles.

OBS

The very name of "ethical consumption" is still an open issue, and varies from ethical consumption to consumption in solidarity, responsible consumption, and fair consumption.... The idea of "ethical consumption" should initially be based on a definition of ethics. For those who understand the concept of Ethics as the definition of criteria to identify Good and Evil, it is important for the concept of Ethical Consumption to include another idea of consumption that is not based on individualism. The word that best defines this relationship with the rest of the world is "solidarity. "It qualifies it and defines the importance of others in the ethical values on which consumption is based. In this case we are talking about "ethical consumption in solidarity. "There is also a simplified version called "consumption in solidarity", which appears in the literature referring to consumption that not only considers our personal welfare but also considers general welfare. This is a consumption in which production is completed, generating an impact on the ecosystem and society in general. Under this idea, the choice of type of consumption can benefit or hinder the creation or maintenance of the productive jobs in a specific society, the preservation of ecosystems and the promotion of the general welfare of communities, countries and the entire planet. "Responsible consumption"(an expression used in Europe, particularly in France), appears where there is an awareness of the power of consumers, which become economic units with an important role to play, just as important as businesses and market regulatory boards. It implies an idea of economy that wishes to provide answers to citizens who belong to an economic and political world that considers man as a mere consumer. In this respect, consuming in a different way represents paying attention to what the money that we give to buy goods and services is financing, thus bringing economic pressure to bear from below that compensates

CONT

The CSI [Clark Sustainability Initiative] shall be approached as a process of continuous learning and innovation open to all members of the university community. The concepts and means of measuring "sustainability" and "socially and ecologically responsible consumption practices" shall be subject to regular reassessment and reconsideration in light of new experiences and understandings.

Moreover, enzyme molecules are known to contain several kinds of functional groups capable of acting as general acids or general bases, e. g., amino, carboxyl, sulfhydryl, phenolic hydroxyl, and imidazole groups.

Unified and American National screw thread standards for screws, bolts, nuts, and other threaded parts consist of six series of threads and selection of special threads that cover nonstandard combinations of diameter and pitch. In general, the unified screw threads are limited to three series : coarse(UNC), fine(UNF), and extrafine(UNEF). A 1/4-inch.-diameter thread in the UNC series has 20 threads/in., while in the UNF series it has 28. In the unified and American National standards, the coarse thread series(UNC and NC) is recommended for general industrial use on threaded machine parts and for screws and bolts. Because a coarse thread has fewer threads per inch than a fine thread of the same diameter, the helix angle is greater, and the thread travels farther in one turn. A coarse thread is preferred when rapidity and ease of assembly are desired, and where strength and clamping power are not of prime importance.

CONT

Threads are designated by standardized notes. Under the unified system, threads are specified by giving in order the nominal diameter, number of threads per inch, the initial letters such as UNC or UNF that identify the series, and class of thread (1A, 2A, and 3A or 1B, 2B and 3B). Threads are considered to be right-hand and single unless otherwise noted; therefore the specification for a left-hand thread must have the letters LH included.

As further examples of servitudes one may take the rights of access actually enjoyed with respect to enclaves. The importance of tacit arrangements as creating rights is illustrated by the Rights of Passage case decided by the International Court of Justice with respect to the enclaves of Portugal in India which are separated from Goa. These were acquired by treaty in 1779, from a local Indian prince, whose successor in title, Great Britain, permitted access. Portugal relied on a local custom of access and also on general customary law concerning access. The Court upheld Portugal' s limited right of access as the outcome of "a practice clearly established between two States which was accepted by the Parties as governing the relations between them.
