OBS

Since its founding in 1984, the Institute has provided technical and financial aid for the creation of a dozen national industry associations in as many countries. These associations distribute health and safety information to their members, organize training seminars, coordinate dust-monitoring activities with the International Chrysotile Association (ICA), coordinate government-industry relations and monitor developments.

Objectives. Promote the adoption and application of appropriate prevention and control measures, regulations, standards, work practices and techniques for the safe use of chrysotile. Take part in international conferences by offering relevant documentation, advice, or technical, medical and scientific training to chrysotile producers and users of chrysotile in other countries as well as to industrial health specialists.... Gather and disseminate medical, scientific and technical data about chrysotile and substitute fibres. Inform and advise the general public, the media, lawmakers, workers, as well as special interest groups on the potential risks related to breathable fibres.

Depuis sa création en 1984, l'Institut a apporté une aide technique et financière à la création d'une dizaine d'associations nationales regroupant les industriels de l'amiante chrysotile dans autant de pays. Ces associations diffusent, auprès de leurs membres, toute information sur la santé et la sécurité, organisent la formation, coordonnent les activités de surveillance de l'empoussiérage avec l'Association internationale du chrysotile (ICAAIA) et assurent le suivi des relations gouvernement-industrie, tout particulièrement en ce qui a trait à la réglementation.

Objectifs. Favoriser l'adoption et la mise en vigueur de règlements, de normes, de méthodes de travail et de techniques appropriés à l'utilisation sécuritaire de l'amiante chrysotile. Participer aux colloques internationaux en offrant de la documentation pertinente, des conseils ou des cours de formation technique, médicale et scientifique aux producteurs et aux utilisateurs de chrysotile des autres pays. [...] Recueillir et diffuser des renseignements d'ordre médical, scientifique ou technique sur l'amiante et les fibres substituts. Informer et conseiller le grand public, les médias, les législateurs, les travailleurs et les groupes de pression ou autres sur les risques possibles reliés aux fibres respirables.
