In China, from ancient times to the present, from official government business to private affairs, no matter how important or trivial, your chop affixes your credit and your promise. After signing your name, your chop is still required for a document to be legally binding. Name chops are used by Chinese calligraphers and painters. Artists follow the custom of stamping their works with the name chops to "sign" them and as proof of authenticity. Name chops are engraved by hand. It combines the beauty of written characters and line drawings. The most common materials for making chops are copper for the general population, and jade, for the emperor and nobility. 1, record 6, English, - chop%20engraving

Ratio charts are also called semilogarithmic or semilog charts. The general principles and mechanical details of drawing the data points and the data path are identical to the procedures for any line chart. 5, record 9, English, - ratio%20chart
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The interpretation of information mapped onto a semilog (ratio) chart is, therefore, somewhat different from the ordinary arithmetic line graph. The important difference is this: the slope of the data path on a ratio chart reveals the rate (percentage change) at which the Y variable is changing per unit of X. ... the ratio chart (semilogarithmic variety) is measuring percentage change in the Y variable only. Since the X scale is arithmetic, changes in the X portion of the data path are arithmetic, not ratio (or percentage) changes. Semilog (ratio) charts are usually employed to graph data ... when a Y variable changes by a large amount in a relatively short range of the X variable. 5, record 9, English, - ratio%20chart

A "general boundary" means that the exact line of the boundary has been left undetermined-"as, for instance, whether it includes a hedge or wall and ditch, or runs along the centre of a wall or fence, or its inner or outer face, or how far it runs within or beyond it; or whether or not the land registered includes the whole or any portion of an adjoining road or stream. "... The general boundaries rule was not, in fact, an innovation but was the sensible reintroduction of a rule of law which had governed conveyancing in England for centuries. When the Business Partnering Model was first presented, the role of a broker within the Director, Human Resources’ team had been developed whose responsibility was routing all requests to the appropriate service centre, tracking all requests to ensure service standards were met, and providing information to managers and the team on the status of individual service transactions. After long discussions, the broker role was replaced by a Business Line Team(BLT). This team is part of the Organization and Resourcing Services. On a matrix basis, a team will be set up for each client Branch/SOA. Headed by a Senior Consultant, reporting to the Resourcing Manager, the team represents a mix of skills and resources to meet client needs as defined by a service agreement negotiatied by the Director, Human Resources. The Senior Consultant, BLT and his/her team will work in partnership with the Director, HR team and will provide constant feed back on results and issues impacting service delivery to the client. Members of the BLT team are at all levels of the organization from support to officer. The make up of the Business Line Team is reviewed annually based on client business plans and service agreements. The Business Line Team is the client's single point of access for staffing, organization design and classification request. It is also responsible for providing these services in the most strategic and cost-efficient way for the client. The Director, HR team will keep the BLT abreast of any client issue, general direction and priority that might impact on service delivery. 2, record 22, English, - Business%20Line%20Team

2, record 22, French, - %C3%89quipe%20de%20secteur%20d%27activit%C3%A9

[The patent] disclosed a novel programmable sequence controller employing a revolutionary programming method, herein called asynchronous drum programming, wherein a digital computer simulates a plurality of drums, each comprising a plurality of drum lines. Each drum is assigned to a particular output to be controlled and each drum line contains one or more logical statements providing exit conditions to further drum lines. This programming method allows ordinary maintenance people to program such programmable controllers for use in energy management systems. 3, record 23, English, - drum%20programming

Pneumatic systems are often compared to hydraulic systems, but such comparisons can only hold true in general terms.... Control valves are... a necessary part of a typical pneumatic system.... The control valve consists of a lever with two lobes. [In the off position], a spring holds the left poppet closed so that compressed air entering the pressure port cannot flow to the brakes. [In the on position], one lobe of the lever holds the left poppet open and a spring closes the right poppet. Compressed air now flows around the opened left poppet, through a drilled passage, and into a chamber below the right poppet. Since the right poppet is closed, the high-pressure air flows out of the brake port and into the brake line to apply the brakes. To release the brakes, the control valve is returned to the off position. 3, record 26, English, - control%20valve

General Swiss Pairing Rules : The rules should be followed from top to bottom in order of importance. Undefeated players should play other undefeated players so that the tournament eventually comes to an end. Players play other players with the same number of points. Players should never play the same person twice. Players should only receive one more bye than any other person in the tournament at any given time. Therefore, if a player is about to receive his/her second bye before another player has yet to receive any byes, these players should be swapped. The next player in line to recieve the bye should be the player with the lowest number of points and the lowest rating(in that order.) 5, record 34, English, - Swiss%20pairing

Safety is to be improved at the Homer Tunnel ... . There is only enough room for one bus at a time, the tunnel is not lit and there is no emergency phone within the tunnel itself. Sunday’s fire, although an unusual incident, is now raising wider issues for Transit including whether to make the tunnel two way. But tour operators say traffic flow was not to blame. David Kennedy of Destination Queenstown says: "The issue was a bizarre freak incident. A bus caught fire in the tunnel and whether it was a one way tunnel or two way tunnel would have been irrelevant, I think." 3, record 36, English, - one%20way%20tunnel

The general equation for a straight [regression] line is Y=a+bX. The constant a is the value of Y obtained when X=O, so that Y=a+B(0)=a. This is the value for Y at which the line intersects the Y axis, so that a may be referred to as the Y intercept. The constant b is the slope of the line. It represents the change in Y due to a one-unit increase in the value of X. 1, record 60, English, - slope
