Between 1972 and 1977 several studies confirmed the hypothesis that air pollutants could travel several thousands of kilometres before deposition and damage occurred. On 18 April 1982, on the occasion of a symposium organized by ICOMOS Tunisia and a corresponding meeting of the Bureau in Hammamet, it was suggested that a day be established to celebrate the diversity of heritage throughout the world. From this idea, the International Day for Monuments and Sites was born. This project was approved by the Executive Committee who also provided practical suggestions to the National Committees on how to organize this day. The Justice Studies Center of the Americas(JSCA) is an autonomous, intergovernmental organisation whose mission is to support the countries of the region in their judicial reform processes. The Center is headquartered in Santiago, Chile, and it includes all of the active member states of the OAS. The JSCA was created in 1999 by a resolution of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States(OAS) in compliance with the mandates contained in the Plan of Action of the Second Americas Summit(Santiago, April 1998) and the recommendations adopted at the General Meeting of the Justice Ministers and Ministers or Attorney's General of the Americas(REMJA).
