... the general problem with the Riefler clocks... was that, although they were very accurate over short periods, changes in their rates made them of little use for studies extending over several months. This defect was remedied to a great extent in the Shortt clock..., which was invented by the British engineer William Shortt... Like in the Riefler clock, the master pendulum of the Shortt clock was housed in a largely evacuated tube. The master pendulum synchronized the motion of a second "slave" pendulum. The slave pendulum sent electrical signals to the master's drive mechanism and to operate the dialwork on the slave clock. By an elaborate electromechanical feedback the master and slave pendulums kept each other synchronized.

The goal of these functions is to drive the motion prediction based on minimizing factors, like energy and effort. This minimization must still adhere to all constraints specified for the particular motion. The distinguishing constraint of predictive dynamics is that it incorporates the general equations of motion. These equations describe the dynamics of our world, and attempt to solve for an unknown motion and the forces behind it.

The scratcher is a simple device, consisting of a band of steel that fits around a joint of casing, and stiff wire fingers or cable loops sticking out in all directions around the band(360-degree coverage). A scratcher resembles a bottlebrush, but its diameter is greater than its height. Importantly, for scratchers to be effective, the casing must be moved. This movement may be reciprocal motion in and out of the wellbore, rotary motion, or both. In general, the more motion, the better the cement job will be.

Gross and others have recently advocated liposhaving as a superior alternative to liposuction. With liposhaving, commercially available soft tissue shavers(often employed in endoscopic surgery) are used instead of the liposuction cannula to sharply amputate fat deposits sucked into the shaver with minimal suction. Great care must be taken to activate the blade only when the shaver is in continuous motion and in the appropriate location, in order to avoid over resecting fat and macerating skin edges. In the right hands, liposhaving is quicker and less labor-intensive then traditional liposuction. However, the safety of this technique with respect to damage to surrounding soft tissue and neurovascular structures must be proved unequivocally before it can be recommended for general use.

The thunderstorms within the spiral bands are organized into regions of rising and sinking air. The Aztec word for a spear throwing stick device.

This projectile propulsion device preceded the bow and arrow. In general, a wooden or bone stick or board with a hand grip at one end and a spur or hook at the other end. The atlatl is used as an extension of the arm in throwing a spear or dart. The spear shaft is socketed and fits into the spur or hook of the Atlatl. Essentially the Atlatl lengthens the length of the spear thrower's arm and with loaded, spring-like, motion can provide the benefit of greater force and distance over that of the hand thrown spear. It is hypothesized that sometimes a stone weight(s)(a. k. a. : Bannerstone, Birdstone, Boatstone) was attached to the Atlatl to provide better balance or to load the device with a spring or bending effect or to diminish the "whoosh" noise created during the throwing process.

For area heating, horizontal-blow unit heaters in exterior zones should be located so as to blow either along the exposure or toward it at a slight angle. Where possible, multiple units should be arranged so that the discharge airstreams support each other and create a general circulatory motion in the space... Horizontal unit heaters should have discharge outlets located well above head level, and both horizontal and vertical units should be so applied that the heated airstream will be delivered to the occupied zone at temperatures and velocities which are not objectionable. where possible, units should be located so that the discharge air flow is into open spaces, such as aisles, and not directly on the occupants.

Actuellement on fabrique surtout des aérothermes à soufflage horizontal; l'axe du jet d'air est situé à 3 ou 4 m de hauteur et sa portée peut atteindre 60 m avec des vitesses de soufflage de l'ordre de 15 m/s. Moyennant cette condition, on peut obtenir un chauffage régulier d'un local au moyen d'aérothermes en très petit nombre : les aérothermes à soufflage horizontal peuvent très bien avoir des puissances de plusieurs centaines de milliers de kilocalories. C'est un mode de chauffage convenant bien à des ateliers, garages, halls industriels suffisamment dégagés.
