Reverse engineering is a technique [used for] understanding the structure of a semiconductor device and its functions. In case of an ASIC [application specific integrated circuit] or a custom IC [integrated circuit], that means extracting information about the location of all the transistors and interconnections. In order to succeed, a general knowledge of IC and VLSI [very large scale integration] design is required. All the layers formed during chip fabrication are removed one by one in reverse order and photographed to determine the internal structure of the chip. 2, record 1, English, - reverse%20engineering

1, record 22, French, - Grands%20Fr%C3%A8res%20Grandes%20S%26oelig%3Burs%20d%27Ottawa

The general principles of chemical-reaction kinetics apply to enzyme-catalyzed reactions, but they also show a distinctive feature not usually observed in nonenzymatic reactions, saturation with substrate.... At a low substrate concentration, the initial reaction velocity vo is nearly proportional to the substrate concentration, and the reaction is thus approximately first order with respect to the substrate. However, as the substrate concentration is increased, the initial rate increases less, so that is is no longer nearly proportional to the substrate concentration; in this zone, the reaction is mixed order. With a further increase in the substrate concentration, the reaction rate becomes essentially independent of substrate concentration and asymptotically approaches a constant rate. 3, record 48, English, - saturation

In many instances Cabinet Ministers are asked questions in the House of Commons as a result of news reports or information derived from other sources. Therefore, in this order, "unusual incident" means any occurrence, major or minor, including news reports, that will or may create public interest, or is likely to be the subject of questions to the Minister or Associate Minister directly or in the House of Commons. Incidents that fall within the "may" aspects of this definition are anticipatory and as such must be assessed against the criteria :"is it possible that the incident will create public interest and form the subject of question to NDHQ or Ministers? As a general rule, any unusual incident that involves or could involve the public should be assessed as a possible subject for a Significant Incident Report or an Item of Possible Interest to Ministers. 3, record 51, English, - Significant%20Incident%20Report

Related to the concept of an "ultimate" limit to length of life is the idea of compression of mortality. This term is invoked(e. g., Fries, 1980) to describe a population in which the proportion of people surviving to advanced ages begins to approach what is assumed to be a biologically(presumably genetic) predetermined age limit to human survival. At this limit, the survival curve "rectangularizes", although a mathematically precise formulation of what constitutes rectangularization is not yet available. There are, however, a general set of order relations for different types of "survival curves" that we can use graphically to illustrate rectangularization. 1, record 61, English, - rectangularization

An approach in which the general features on enzyme active sites are studied by correlating the rates of reactions with the structures of the substrates. For instance, by comparing the rates of hydrolysis of a large number of amide derivation of amino acids, it has been demonstrated that chymotrypsin has a strong preference for substrates containing aromatic or bulky hydrophobic R groups, whereas elastase has a strong preference for substrates containing small hydrophobic R groups. Clearly the substrate-binding sites of these enzymes must contain features which account for the observed specificities. Another approach useful in mapping active sites is the use of reagents capable of covalently modifying different types of functional groups in enzyme molecules, in order to establish whether such groups are necessary for catalytic activity. 2, record 64, English, - active%20site%20mapping

The first world championship in our sport was organized in 1987 in France, and eight national shooting federations founded the "Union Internationale des Federations et Associations Nationales de Tir" on 7th July 1907 in Zurich, Switzerland... The French title of the "International Union of National Federations and Associations of Shooting" started to use the initials, UIT. This union was dissolved in 1915 during World War I but was reorganized in 1921 under the new name of "Union Internationale de Tir", also using the initials, UIT. After World War II had started, the activities of the Union were again suspended and then reorganized in 1947 under the new name, "International Shooting Union", using the title in the English language which from then on was decided to be the official working language of the organization. The initials of the International Shooting Union would have been ISU, but our organization had to continue using the letters of its French title, UIT, in order not to confuse it with the initials used in the international sport world by the International Skating Union... The change of the title "Union" to International Shooting Sport Federation(ISSF) in order to conform to almost all the other sporting organisations was officially approved at the General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain on 15th July 1998. 2, record 89, English, - International%20Shooting%20Sport%20Federation

Gross and others have recently advocated liposhaving as a superior alternative to liposuction. With liposhaving, commercially available soft tissue shavers(often employed in endoscopic surgery) are used instead of the liposuction cannula to sharply amputate fat deposits sucked into the shaver with minimal suction. Great care must be taken to activate the blade only when the shaver is in continuous motion and in the appropriate location, in order to avoid over resecting fat and macerating skin edges. In the right hands, liposhaving is quicker and less labor-intensive then traditional liposuction. However, the safety of this technique with respect to damage to surrounding soft tissue and neurovascular structures must be proved unequivocally before it can be recommended for general use. 1, record 94, English, - liposhaving

For larger denominators or when there are many fractions to be added, it is easiest to use the method of lowest common denominators(LCD). The denominators must be reduced to their prime numbers in order to find the smallest denominator common to the fractions... Denominators of fractions being subtracted must be the same. The resulting difference is then the difference of the numerators of the fractions being subtracted. The general method of subtraction of fractions with common denominators is to subtract the numerators and place this difference over the common denominator. 6, record 95, English, - least%20common%20denominator
