The Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission(MPHEC) 's Policy on Quality Assurance was initially approved in November 1997, and reviewed in February 1998 and 1999. The policy includes the review of academic programmes prior to implementation; and the monitoring of institutional quality assurance policies and procedures. Since the Villers-Cotterêts Edict in 1539, the French language has officially been a component of national identity. Today, the Constitution(article 2) specifies that the language of the Republic is French, while remaining open to the use of other languages. La Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France(DGLFLF) is a government department whose role is to guide national language policy at inter-ministerial level. Attached to the Ministry of Culture and Communication, the department's role is to examine, pilot and co-ordinate issues, and to track the application of legislative and statutory mechanisms(Law of 4th August 1994 on the use of the French language). Depuis l’Édit de Villers-Cotterêts (1539), la langue française est un élément constitutif de l’identité nationale. Aujourd’hui, l’usage du français, langue de la République, est garanti sur notre territoire, en vertu de la Constitution (article 2), dans une perspective d’ouverture aux autres langues. Les pouvoirs publics disposent d’un service chargé d’animer, au plan interministériel, la politique linguistique de l’État : la Délégation générale à la langue française et aux langues de France (DGLFLF). The Commission on Science and Technology for Development(CSTD) is a subsidiary body of the Economic and Social Council(ECOSOC). It was established in 1992 as a result of the restructuring and revitalisation of the United Nations in the economic, social and related fields. CASCO is one of four policy development committees of the International Organization for Standardization(ISO), reporting to the ISO General Assembly. Participation is open to all ISO member bodies and to the International Electrotechnical Commission(IEC). The CASCO Chairman is appointed by ISO Council for a three-year term of office. He is its interface with the European Union's General Affairs Council, and its interlocutor with the newly-appointed High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
