Les systèmes fluviaux ont façonné et façonnent activement les paysages continentaux. Ces systèmes contrôlent l’évacuation des eaux superficielles et souterraines et des sédiments produits et accumulés dans les bassins versants. Ils comportent une gamme de processus qui s’imbriquent à de multiples échelles. À l’échelle des tronçons fluviaux, la dynamique de l’écoulement de l’eau dans les rivières est cruciale pour comprendre l’évolution des formes du lit des rivières. À l’échelle du bassin versant, le transit sédimentaire est fortement corrélé aux fluctuations du niveau de base et de l’évolution des formes fluviales.

La limite spatiale entre le système fluvial et ses bordures est bien distincte, et elle sépare nettement les deux milieux : fluvial et interfluvial. Par contre, les vastes dimensions de la plaine alluviale amazonienne et l’absence de limite entre les forêts d’interfluves et les végétations alluviales, le long d’un gradient qui s’étend des forêts non inondables jusqu’aux populations d’espèces disséminées par l’eau ou les poissons, montrent que ce cours d’eau et ses bordures constituent un système ouvert et dépendant des échanges latéraux avec les milieux adjacents.

[...] les styles fluviaux comportent des processus géomorphologiques propres dont l’existence même est digne d’être remarquée, mais dont le rôle est fondamental et souvent contribue écologiquement à la diversité biologique. Par exemple, les styles dynamiques à méandre et divagants ont un processus de méandrage qui conduit à renouveler constamment les habitats. Le style anastomosé dans les plaines est souvent le lieu d’inondations où les alluvions déposées sont riches en minéraux. Les styles seuil-mouille, cascade, et les rapides présentent des habitats remarquables pour les salmonidés.

General rate income pool at the end of a particular taxation year, of a taxable Canadian corporation that is a Canadian-controlled private corporation or a deposit insurance corporation in the particular taxation year, is the positive or negative amount determined by [a] formula.

... a new tax account called the "General Rate Income Pool" or GRIP was also introduced for those CCPCs [Canadian-Controlled Private Corporations] with active income in excess of the limit for the small business tax rate. This pool will be an accumulation of after-tax income that was taxed at the general rate. Since the rate of taxation is based on both federal and provincial rates, the government has decided to simply assume that the combined general tax rate is 32 per cent rather than trying to determine the actual rate that applied. Therefore, each year, an amount equal to 68 per cent of taxable income excluding small business income and investment income will be added to the GRIP balance.

There are at least three distinct types of cold pool : 1. Large(in areal extent), slow-moving vortices at latitudes poleward of roughly 50deg N & S. They are often over, or immediately downwind of the source regions of polar or arctic air masses, in such areas as the Canadian Arctic or Siberian Russia.... 2. Once cold air from the source region as detailed in(1.) above is caught up in the circulation of mid-latitude depressions, the characteristics of the air mass are altered. Warming from below(over relatively warmer sea surfaces for example), leads to instability developing, and with an accompanying injection of moisture(after a reasonable length of passage over the sea), cloudy convection(showers, thunderstorms) is triggered. Cold pools in these situations are often maxima of such activity, with surface charts showing west or northwesterly airflow, often with cyclonically curved isobars. The cold pool will move in the general synoptic flow, and will eventually warm out(disappear) due to sensible & latent heat exchanges within the environment of the cold pool. However,... sometimes the cold pool will transform into a slow-moving, longer-lasting entity, particularly if the feed of ex-polar air on its western flank is maintained-this occurs in highly meridional situations. 3. A pool of cold air can also become ’detached’ at lower latitudes...

En 1992, deux auteurs anglais, Price et Vaughan, publièrent une étude statistique des gouttes froides, en séparant 3 types : les gouttes froides de type arctique, de type polaire et de type subtropicale, en fonction du courant-jet au voisinage duquel eut lieu le détachement stratosphérique. Ces auteurs montrèrent que les gouttes froides de type subtropical sont plus petite, et durent moins longtemps, que les gouttes froides qui se forment aux latitudes moyennes et polaires.
