The basic traditional design procedure is executed in several stages. In the first stage, the architect develops a program, or list of the client's requirements. In the second stage, or conceptual phase, the architect translates requirements into spaces, relates the spaces and makes sketches, called schematics, to illustrate the concepts. When sufficient information is obtained on the size and general construction of the building, a rough estimate is made of construction cost. If this cost does not exceed the cost budgeted by the client for construction, the next stage, design development, proceeds. 5, record 7, English, - conceptual%20phase

Enzymes can be immobilized within microcapsules that have either a permanent or nonpermanent semipermeable membrane.... Nonpermanent membranes or "liquid-surfactant membranes"... refer to a water-immiscible phase composed of surfactants, "additives", and a hydrocarbon solvent that contain emulsion-size aqueous droplets of various reagents or catalysts.... The general procedure for immobilizing enzymes with liquid-surfactants membranes microcapsules is similar to that used for microencapsulation with permanent membranes. The aqueous enzyme-containing solution is emulsified with a surfactant to form the liquid membrane encapsulated enzyme. Once prepared, the microcapsules are transferred to an aqueous solution to which then can be added the substrate. 2, record 14, English, - liquid%2Dsurfactant%20membrane%20microcapsule

Kyphoplasty is a newer treatment for patients immobilized by the painful vertebral body compression fractures associated with osteoporosis. Like vertebroplasty, kyphoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure that can alleviate up to 90% of the pain caused by compression fractures. In addition to relieving pain, kyphoplasty can also stabilize the fracture, restore height, and reduce deformity.... Kyphoplasty is performed under local or general anesthesia. Using image guidance x-rays, two small incisions are made and a probe is placed into the vertebral space where the fracture is located. The bone is drilled and a balloon, called a bone tamp, is inserted on each side. These balloons are then inflated with contrast medium(to be seen using image guidance x-rays) until they expand to the desired height and removed. The balloon does not remain in the patient. It simply creates a cavity for the cement and also helps expand the compressed bone. The spaces created by the balloons are then filled with PMMA [poly(methyl methacrylate) ], the same orthopaedic cement used in vertebroplasty, binding the fracture. The cement hardens quickly, providing strength and stability to the vertebra, restoring height, and relieving pain. 1, record 17, English, - kyphoplasty

1, record 18, French, - Cadre%20statutaire%20du%20R%C3%A9seau%20mondial%20de%20r%C3%A9serves%20de%20la%20biosph%C3%A8re

This is of course the case if p is the expectation of a Gaussian variable, but Poincaré gives a more general solution, now called Gibbs distribution. This fact was rediscovered independently by Szilard in 1925. Then, around 1935, Koopman, Pitman, and Darmois asked the same question concerning the most general estimation procedure, without being restricted to maximum likelihood. This property of the Gibbs distribution, called sufficiency by statisticians, plays a central role in the Szilard-Mandelbrot axiomatic presentation of statistical thermodynamics.... 1, record 35, English, - Gibbs%20distribution

VanLehn and Brown(1980) propose the mechanism of planning nets for representing the meaning of procedures from a teleological perspective. A planning net is a directed graph. Nodes contain increasingly expanded flow charts that represent the partial design stages of a procedure being synthesized from first principles. Links stand both for domain-dependent constraints the procedure must comply with regarding the operation, the representation, or the physical substrate, and for general planning and derivational heuristics used to resolve violations of constraints. Two nodes are linked if applying a constraint or a heuristic to the procedure of the first one leads to the new version of the second one. The last node of the graph is the complete procedure. 1, record 43, English, - planning%20net

Universal subgoaling is an especially interesting type of reflective behavior. Although the idea was originally introduced in the context of general problem solving, we can apply it to deduction, as shown here. Consider a reasoning procedure that is undefined for certain steps on certain databases because of difficulties in supplying a satisfactory definition. For example, the procedure may not dictate any further inferences, or there may be too many possibilities. Universal subgoaling is the process of dealing with these undefined cases by reflection. 1, record 46, English, - subgoaling
