While reserved bicycle lanes are a common measure, there are situations where roadway geometry and/or operations do not readily lend themselves to bicycle lane implementation. As an alternative marking option, the shared-use pavement marking symbol, or "sharrow" may be used... The sharrow marking consists of two chevron markings placed in front of a bicycle stencil. The general purpose of the sharrow symbol is to indicate to cyclists the correct positioning on the roadway, and to indicate to drivers the position where cyclists may be expected. There are three general applications of this marking : 1) side-by-side cyclist-motorist operation, 2) single file cyclist-motorist operation, and 3) conflict zones. 3, record 2, English, - shared%20lane%20marking

The labelling system is based on the classification of dangerous goods and was established with the following aims in mind :(a) to make dangerous goods easily recognizable from a distance by the general appearance(symbol, colour and shape) of the labels they bear :(b) to make the nature of the risks easy to identify by means of symbols....(c) to provide, by means of colours on the labels, a useful first guide for handling and stowing. 4, record 11, English, - hazard%20label

Just as the cell doctrine has proved central in biology, and germ theory is pivotal in the area of disease, so the concept of physical symbol system is deemed by Simon and Newell and their colleagues at Carnegie-Mellon as the core doctrine in the area of computer science. Proceeding in Boolean spirit, the job of the theorist is to identify that set of processes which operates on symbolic expressions in order to produce other expressions that create, modify, reproduce, and/or transform symbolic structures. A physical symbol system is necessary and sufficient to carry out intelligent actions; and, conversely, any system that exhibits general intelligence will prove upon analysis to be a physical symbol system. Such a system consists of a control, a memory, a set of operations, and input and output : its input consists of objects in certain locations; its processes are operations upon the input; its output is the modification or re-creation of objects in certain locations. 1, record 13, English, - physical%20symbol%20system

1, record 13, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20symboles%20physiques
