The Convention on Wetlands is an intergovernmental treaty adopted on 2 February 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar, on the southern shore of the Caspian Sea. Thus, though nowadays the name of the Convention is usually written "Convention on Wetlands(Ramsar, Iran, 1971) ", it has come to be known popularly as the "Ramsar Convention"... The official name of the treaty-The Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat-reflects its original emphasis on the conservation and wise use of wetlands primarily to provide habitat for waterbirds. Over the years, however, the Convention has broadened its scope to cover all aspects of wetland conservation and wise use, recognizing wetlands as ecosystems that are extremely important for biodiversity conservation in general and for the well-being of human communities. For this reason, the increasingly common use of the short form of the treaty's title, the "Convention on Wetlands", is entirely appropriate. The Convention entered into force in 1975... UNESCO serves as Depositary for the Convention, but its administration has been entrusted to a secretariat known as the "Ramsar Bureau", which is housed in the headquarters of IUCN-The World Conservation Union in Gland, Switzerland, under the authority of the Conference of the Parties and the Standing Committee of the Convention 1, record 9, English, - Convention%20on%20Wetlands%20of%20International%20Importance%20especially%20as%20Waterfowl%20Habitat

1, record 9, Spanish, - Convenci%C3%B3n%20relativa%20a%20los%20Humedales%20de%20Importancia%20Internacional%2C%20especialmente%20como%20H%C3%A1bitat%20de%20Aves%20Acu%C3%A1ticas

The Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty(or ABM Treaty) was a treaty between the United States of America and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on the limitation of the anti-ballistic missile(ABM) systems used in defending areas against missile-delivered nuclear weapons. On May 26, 1972, the President of the United States, Richard Nixon and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Leonid Brezhnev signed the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty. The treaty was in force for thirty years, from 1972 until 2002. As further examples of servitudes one may take the rights of access actually enjoyed with respect to enclaves. Three instances are available, those along the Dutch-Belgian frontier, those of Portugal in India, and West Berlin. The importance of tacit arrangements as creating rights is illustrated by the Rights of Passage case decided by the International Court of Justice with respect to the enclaves of Portugal in India which are separated from Goa. These were acquired by treaty in 1779, from a local Indian prince, whose successor in title, Great Britain, permitted access. Portugal relied on a local custom of access and also on general customary law concerning access. The Court upheld Portugal' s limited right of access as the outcome of "a practice clearly established between two States which was accepted by the Parties as governing the relations between them. "The right of access to Berlin is not completely guaranteed in the documents relating to Allied occupation of the city, but is alleged to be incidental to the right to be in Berlin. 1, record 32, English, - right%20of%20access

Many rules of general international law and treaty provisions are concerned to confer or describe spheres of state competence and employ concepts such as territorial sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction, contiguous zone..., and power of administration. In these instances activities by a state exercising such a competence which cause harm to other states may raise issues comparable to the control of discretionary powers of ministers and public bodies in municipal law.

Armistices may be... general when all armed operations are suspended [or they may be] partial or local... One modern trend in regard to general armistices, however, is that they represent no mere temporary halting of hostilities, but a kind of de facto termination of war, which is confirmed by the final treaty of peace. In the case of a non-war armed conflict, as, for example, the Korean conflict, 1950-1953, the armistice puts an end to the conflict, and it may also be that a final peaceful settlement is contemplated by the contending parties. 1, record 35, English, - general%20armistice

Other states can accede to a treaty, so as to become likewise subject to rights and duties under it, only with the consent of the original contracting parties. Such right or freedom to accede(accession) is not infrequently reserved in the treaty itself. The phrase "open" conventions or treaties... is used in such cases in contradistinction to general conventions or treaties, which are "closed". 1, record 36, English, - closed%20convention
