Necessity and proportionality have always been core principles of both branches of the jus belli principles that apply to both the authority to employ military force and the regulation of actual employment. However, in the jus ad bellum context, they have never before been viewed as principles to regulate operational and tactical execution. Instead, in that context they frame the legality of national or multinational resort to military force in self-defense. Once the decision is made to employ force pursuant to this authority, the jus in bello variant of these principles (necessity of the mission and proportionality of collateral damage) operate to regulate the application of combat power during mission execution (in other words, they provide the foundation for the regulation of the application of combat power in the context of the self-defense-justified mission).

A Turk's head knot is a decorative knot with a basket weave pattern surrounding a cylinder shaped object. The name is used to describe the general family of all such knots rather than one individual knot. The most common use for the Turk's head is to mark the "king spoke" of a vessel' s wheel; when this spoke is upright the rudder is in a central position. Otherwise, the knot is used mostly for decoration, and occasionally as anti-chafing protection. The number of leads of a Turk's head is the number of crossings it makes as it goes around the circumference of the cylinder. The number of bends is the number of strands along the long axis of the cylinder. Depending on the number of leads and bends, a Turk's head may be tied using a single strand or multiple strands. Mathematically, the number of strands is the greatest common divisor of the number of leads and the number of bends; the knot may be tied with a single strand if and only if the two numbers are coprime. The knot was originally named because of its resemblance to a turban.

State dinners and other official occasions at Rideau Hall offer many opportunities to showcase our nation's culinary excellence with the finest of Canadian ingredients and wines. Rideau Hall also houses the best of Canadian furniture and art continuing a tradition started by Pauline Vanier, the spouse of former Governor General Georges Vanier(1959-1967), who began "Canadianizing" a room of Rideau Hall known as the "Canadiana Room". Now this room has been renamed the "Pauline Vanier Room". The Pauline Vanier Room is a showcase of Canada's heritage in arts and crafts. The Governor General and guests of Rideau Hall often use it as a location for media interviews. Part of the original McKay house, the room has had several uses since 1838. For a time, it even served as gentlemen's smoking room. In 1959, Madame Vanier decided to vote the space to the display of some of the best examples of Canadian decorative arts.

The performance of the membrane depends, to a very large measure, on the method of laying. There is only one in general use in Canada, and it may be referred to as the shingle method.... Nuclear Power Demonstration reactor. This was the prototype CANDU reactor, and the first power reactor in Canada. It was located upstream of AECL' s Chalk River laboratories, along the Ottawa River's south shore(i. e. in Ontario). The reactor had a maximum continuous output of 22 MWe gross(19. 5 MWe net)... The reactor was built as a joint AECL/Ontario Hydro/Canadian General Electric project, and was initially intended to use a vertically-fuelled pressure vessel reactor. The design was changed in 1957 to natural uranium fuel bundles in horizontal pressure tubes in unpressurized heavy water moderator, with on-line refuelling. These are hallmarks of the CANDU reactor. The reactor had 132 fuel channels(each fuel channel comprised a pressure tube inside a calandria tube) and the coolant leaving the channels was 7. 2 MPa and 277°C. The main reactivity control was by adjusting the heavy-water moderator level, which could be rapidly dumped for fast shut down. NPD was finally shut down on May 5 1987, for economic reasons...

The Hartford loop is a special arrangement of return piping at the boiler. Its purpose is to reduce the likelihood of an insignificant quantity of water creating a low water condition that can cause damage to a steam heating boiler. It came into general use in 1919 and was primarily designed for use with heating systems having gravity wet return. In effect, it consists of two loops of pipe forming two U-tubes. The first loop is around the boiler and the second loop is composed of the drip connection, the wet return, and a short riser called the loop riser.... The use of a Hartford loop is not recommended where the condensate is returned to the boiler by a condensate pump.

The discovery that bacteria are able to communicate with each other changed our general perception of many single, simple organisms inhabiting our world. Instead of language, bacteria use signalling molecules which are released into the environment. As well as releasing the signalling molecules, bacteria are also able to measure the number(concentration) of the molecules within a population. Nowadays we use the term ’Quorum Sensing’(QS) to describe the phenomenon whereby the accumulation of signalling molecules enable a single cell to sense the number of bacteria(cell density). In the natural environment, there are many different bacteria living together which use various classes of signalling molecules. As they employ different languages they cannot necessarily talk to all other bacteria.
