Proteins usually are almost neutral molecules; that is, they have neither acidic nor basic properties. This means that the acidic carboxyl(-COO-) groups of aspartic and glutamic acid are about equal in number to the amino acids with basic side chains. Three such basic amino acids, each containing six carbon atoms, occur in proteins. The one with the simplest structure, lysine, is synthesized by plants but not by animals. Even some plants have a low lysine content. 9, record 3, English, - L%2Dlysine

2, record 3, Spanish, - lisina

Protein phosphorylation is reversible because of the abundant phosphatases present in the cytosol. When protein kinases are turned off, these phosphatases remove the phosphate from the phosphorylated enzyme, and the enzyme activity returns to its former level. The adenylation of tyrosine side chains(in which an AMP moiety from ATP is reversibly added to the tyrosine OH group) provides another important regulatory system, as does the reversible methylation of glutamic acid side chains. 3, record 6, English, - phosphatase

On forcing a cell suspension at high pressure through a narrow orifice, the rapid pressure drop provides a very powerful means of disrupting the cells. In practice it is simple to design equipment to subject the cell suspension to shear forces before releasing the pressure. By changing the pressure applied, cells may be disrupted completely or only sufficiently to release periplasmic enzymes.... [Experimentors have] used a liquid shear system for the disruption of chloroplasts. The suspension was passed through a needle valve at pressures up to 20, 000 p. s. i. and a flow rate of 10 ml/min. Under these conditions, rupture of E. coli was indicated by an increase in glutamic acid decarboxylase activity. 2, record 8, English, - liquid%20shear
Record number: 8, Textual support number: 1 OBS
In practical terms liquid shear is associated with the generation of heat. As a result subsequent increases in the temperature of the suspension of up to 40 °C may be encountered. Cell suspensions must, therefore, be introduced to the apparatus at 0-4°C to minimise loss of enzyme activity. If recycling is used then cooling before re-entry is essential. Equally, with this type of equipment the best results are obtained by using a homogeneous cell suspension. Irregular particle sizes owing to filamentous or pelleted growth modes reduce the efficiency of cell breakage. 3, record 8, English, - liquid%20shear

A toxin found in linseed [that causes] pyridoxine deficiency in fowls fed on linseed meal. 2, record 16, English, - linatine
Record number: 16, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Maximum growth of chicks was obtained with the addition of 7 milligrams of pyroxidine per kilogram of diet. Much work was done to identify the apparent pyridoxine antagonist, until its final resolution was made by Klosterman et al.(1967) in the identification of linatine. Linatine is gamma-glutamyl-1-amino-D-proline which can be hydrolytically cleaved to glutamic acid and 1-amino-D-proline. The latter forms a stable complex with pyridoxalphosphate, which presumably induces a pyridoxine deficiency. 3, record 16, English, - linatine
