Weight-driven clocks, as the name suggests, are mechanical clocks powered by falling weights that hang on a chain or cable. With the aid of gravity, the weights are pulled down slowly, typically in a period of 7 days. After which, the weights go back up. The chain or cable holding the weight needs to be manually pulled up or wound using a crank to start another cycle. 1, record 1, English, - weight%2Ddriven%20clock

Philanthropic responsibility refers to a business's aim to actively make the world and society a better place. In addition to acting ethically and environmentally friendly, organizations driven by philanthropic responsibility often dedicate a portion of their earnings. While many firms donate to charities and nonprofits that align with their missions, others donate to worthy causes that don’t directly relate to their business. Others go so far as to create their own charitable trust or organization to give back and have a positive impact on society. 2, record 2, English, - philanthropic%20responsibility

St. Patrick's Day is observed each year on March 17. St. Patrick's Day is not an official national holiday in Canada. It is, however, a provincial holiday in Newfoundland. St. Patrick's Day invokes the spirit of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland who is credited with bringing Christianity to the island. Observed as a religious occasion in Ireland, in Canada, it is often marked with festive parades and the wearing of green. It is believed that Patrick was born in Kilpatrick Scotland. When Patrick was in his early teens, he was captured during a raid and taken to Ireland as a slave. There he learned to tend and herd sheep. At this time, Druids and pagans occupied Ireland. Patrick learned the practices and language of his captors. Because of the hardships he faced, Patrick turned to God. When Patrick was twenty, God came to him in a dream and advised him to go to the coast. Patrick escaped and sailers took him back to Britain where he was reunited with his parents. But Ireland beckoned to the young man through is dreams, so Patrick entered the priesthood, was ordained as a bishop and returned to the Emerald Isle in March 433. He traveled across the country converting the people to Christianity. 1, record 5, English, - St%2E%20Patrick%27s%20Day

Master the Overhead Squat.... If you do it right, the overhead squat is an effective movement for your legs, hips, shoulders, even your abs [abdominal muscles].... When trying to perform an overhead squat, a lot of people either shift their weight too far forward onto their toes or back onto their heels, among other mistakes. You want to aim to keep your weight balanced over the middle of your arches, with your arms over your feet. Begin in a standing position, holding a dowel overhead with your arms straight and your feet about shoulder-width apart. Initiate the movement with your hips, squatting back and down until the tops of your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. As you go, think about pulling the dowel apart with your hands. The term "rodeo" comes from a Spanish word meaning "roundup", and the sport developed from the natural competitive urges of cowboys involved in mass roundups on the western plains. The principal events of rodeos today are bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback [bronc] riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling, with steer roping and team roping contests often added to the list. Many rodeos add some other popular events such as barrel riding(a slalom-like race for women on horseback around a number of barrels), wild-horse racing, and wild-cow milking contests essentially for the amusement of the audiences. Organized rodeos go back to the 19th century; the principal feature of Buffalo Bill Cody's famous Wild West show, which began in 1883, was the rodeo. 2, record 13, English, - rodeo

Rusty tussock moth.... Larvae attack all conifer seedling species.... These gregarious caterpillars completely denude a seedling before moving on to the next, and can occur in patches of 5-100 styroblocks.... The adult male is rusty-brown with a white dot and light brown band on each forewing. The female is flightless, sedentary, with light tan hairs covering the body. The population overwinters as white egg masses which can be cemented to the sides and bottoms of styroblocks. They will adhere to the blocks after seedlings have been lifted and blocks washed and stored. Because the eggs are white, they often go unnoticed. Larvae emerge from these egg masses(often on styroblocks) around May, and actively feed on newly emerged seedlings. They are hairy, up to 28 mm long, have two black hair "pencils" projecting forward and one to the rear, four golden brushes of hair on the back, accompanied by eight warty protuberances with yellow and black hairs on each segment. 4, record 20, English, - rusty%20tussock%20moth

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st in Canada. Halloween is a favorite family celebration-a time for traditions such as dressing in costumes, trick-or-treating around the neighbourhood, and carving pumpkins. Children dress up in funny or scary costumes and go "trick or treating, "and neighbours are expected to respond by giving them small treats. Adults may also dress in costume for Halloween parties. Halloween(the evening before All Saints or All Hallows Day) is a secular celebration based on ancient Druid customs dating back to 700 B. C. The Druids, a Celtic religious order in ancient Britain, Ireland and France, believed that the souls of the dead returned to mingle with the living on "hallowed eve, "October 31. Each year on that night, the Druids would make bonfires and offer sacrifices of crops and animals, and individuals would dress in costumes to disguise themselves from these spirits. 1, record 25, English, - Halloween

3, record 25, French, - Halloween

There are two ways that a searcher can circumvent this tedious process of using the Grantee indexes to "go back" on a title. Another lawyer can let him borrow his title abstract... The other method is the use of "tie-in clauses". For example, assume that at the end of the legal description in a 1984 deed from G. H. to I. J., the conveyancer who prepared the deed were to add a clause to the following effect : Being the same lands described in a deed from E. F. to G. H. dated Jan. 7, 1972 and recorded at(Halifax) Registry of Deeds office on Jan. 7, 1972 in Book 2529 at page 47. ... Assystem City Car... is remarkably easy to park, and not only because of its compact dimensions(3. 60 m long, 1. 60 m wide and 1. 60 m tall), or its light weight(only 600 kg), but also because it has three axles, a central one, with two wheels, and one wheel in each extreme of the car(front and end). These single wheel axles are the ones responsible for moving and turning the Assystem City Car. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination. 1, record 34, English, - Assystem%20City%20Car

2, record 34, French, - Assystem%20City%20Car

Why would people want to read a book on CD-ROM ? ... My answer is, "I don’t know -- I prefer books, myself." So why did I do a CD-ROM? Two reasons: The first is exploratory, the second pedagogic. The first reason is that I feel a strong obligation to try to produce, use, and reflect upon all new technologies. ... But the second reason is more interesting. There are many things one can do with a CD-ROM book that are impossible with a regular book. For example, little demos, video asides, and active interaction. 3, record 42, English, - CD%2DROM%20book

A CD book is a computerized version of a paper book. It has a cover, you open it, turn the pages, go back and forward and at the end has a back cover. Unlike a regular book though, it can contain links. A link lets you jump right to the topic page that you are looking for, such as a chapter page or subject page. This type of book can also play music or other sounds while you read. A neat feature is that a CD book can also contain videos, something a paper book could never do. If you find an interesting topic or page, you can also send this subject to your printer and have a hard copy for reference(like having an instant copy machine). 2, record 42, English, - CD%2DROM%20book

Breaking takes between 4 and 6 weeks, though longer may be required if horses have had little handling. All horses here basically go through the same breaking program, regardless of their final intended use. Your horse is tied up to the tie-up-poles, where there is minimal risk of injury if he pulls back. In the round-pen, he will be hobbled, bridled, and saddled. He will be lunged with a saddle on, carrying the bit but no reins. Next, he will de driven(long reined). This starts to develop steering on the horse, stopping and backing up. Then he will be ridden in the round-pen until he is balanced with a rider, can steer, stop and back up. Then it is outside to do the same. 1, record 45, English, - breaking

... many weather phenomena occur on the ’mesoscale’... Mesoscale is believed to play an important role in transferring energy from the large scale down to the small scales.... Energy Cascade. As we go down scales, we see finer and finer structures. Many of these structures are due to certain types of instabilities that inherently limit the size and duration of the phenomena. Also, there exist exchanges of energy, heat, moisture and momentum among all scales. Example : A thunderstorm feeds off convective instabilities... created by e. g., synoptic-scale cyclones.... The thunderstorm in turn can produce tornadoes... Strong winds in the tornado creates turbulent eddies which then dissipate and eventually turn the kinetic energy into heat. Convective activities can also feed back into the large scale and enhancing synoptic scale cyclones. Most of the energy transfer in the atmosphere is downscale-starting from differential heating with latitude and land-sea contrast on the planetary scales.(Energy in the atmosphere can also transfer upscale). We call the energy transfer among scales energy cascade. 3, record 53, English, - energy%20cascade

There are many ways of rendering the concept of "profilé" in English. If the width of the profile changes from one spot on the racquet to another, then the term "beam" is preferred, e.g. tapered beam design for the all round game. If one wants to specify that the beam is narrow, regular or conventional (i.e. not a wide-body), the term "frame", as in "narrow frame" or "conventional-width frame" is preferred. When one speaks of a "conventional frame", one implies that the profile or beam is constant, straight and narrow. Related terms: shaft, frame cross section. 1, record 66, English, - frame%20profile
