The STU-III is a special telephone instrument that can be switched to a secure mode for discussion of classified information.... If you need to discuss classified information, you can use the STU-III in non-secure mode to place a call to another party who also has a STU-III. After the connection is made, you ask the party receiving the call to "go secure. "You and the other party then put your crypto-ignition keys(CIKs) into the phone terminal, turn them on and press the SECURE button. It may take about 15 seconds for the secure connection to be established. When the secure connection is activated, the display screen on the unit shows the highest classification level at which discussion is authorized. After hanging up, wait at least two seconds before removing the CIK. 3, record 1, English, - secure%20telephone%20unit%2Dthird%20generation

The Secure Telephone Unit - Third Generation (STU-III) is a low-cost, user-friendly, secure telephone device. The terminals are designed to operate reliably, with high voice quality, as both ordinary telephones and secure instruments over the dial-up public switch telephone network. STU-III operates in full-duplex over a single telephone circuit using echo canceling modem technology. 4, record 1, English, - secure%20telephone%20unit%2Dthird%20generation

Progressive transfer of kinetic energy from systems of larger scale to those of smaller scale, ending in its dissipation by friction. 2, record 2, English, - energy%20cascade
Record number: 2, Textual support number: 1 CONT
... many weather phenomena occur on the ’mesoscale’... Mesoscale is believed to play an important role in transferring energy from the large scale down to the small scales.... Energy Cascade. As we go down scales, we see finer and finer structures. Many of these structures are due to certain types of instabilities that inherently limit the size and duration of the phenomena. Also, there exist exchanges of energy, heat, moisture and momentum among all scales. Example : A thunderstorm feeds off convective instabilities... created by e. g., synoptic-scale cyclones.... The thunderstorm in turn can produce tornadoes... Strong winds in the tornado creates turbulent eddies which then dissipate and eventually turn the kinetic energy into heat. Convective activities can also feed back into the large scale and enhancing synoptic scale cyclones. Most of the energy transfer in the atmosphere is downscale-starting from differential heating with latitude and land-sea contrast on the planetary scales.(Energy in the atmosphere can also transfer upscale). We call the energy transfer among scales energy cascade. 3, record 2, English, - energy%20cascade
