CONT

Spinning or tumbling net shots are shots where the player makes the shuttle spin so that it does not go too high, and lands close to the net. This shot is executed by slicing the shuttle when it is right over the net. The player needs to take the shuttle as high as possible to make this move work. By slicing the shuttle, the player prevents the shuttle from going any higher. All the upwards and forward moving momentum is transferred into the spin. The shuttle would stay stationary for a second as it spins before dropping down onto the floor.

Master the Overhead Squat.... If you do it right, the overhead squat is an effective movement for your legs, hips, shoulders, even your abs [abdominal muscles].... When trying to perform an overhead squat, a lot of people either shift their weight too far forward onto their toes or back onto their heels, among other mistakes. You want to aim to keep your weight balanced over the middle of your arches, with your arms over your feet. Begin in a standing position, holding a dowel overhead with your arms straight and your feet about shoulder-width apart. Initiate the movement with your hips, squatting back and down until the tops of your thighs are at least parallel to the floor. As you go, think about pulling the dowel apart with your hands. Push through your hips to return to a standing position.

CONT

Crazy Ivan is a U.S. Navy term for a Soviet submarine manoeuvre, characterized by any number of sudden and sharp turns, used by submarine crews to "look behind" them. Because of the acoustic distortions and noise caused by propeller blades, it is nearly possible for conventional sonars to detect objects directly behind a submarine. Thus, with sudden turns, the area where the sonar is not effective shifts relative to the current heading of the submarine, causing previous gaps in sonar coverage to be revealed while masking known areas.

OBS

The "crazy" part of the name comes from the fact that these manoeuvre were very sudden and "Ivan" was a common nickname used to refer to the Russians. A standard tactic of pursuing submarines would be to closely follow the Soviet submarine hidden right in the sonar gap, causing the U. S. submarine to go undetected.

A running attack generally executed from beyond normal lunging distance.

CONT

The flèche is a running attack executed in the following manner : 1. The arm is extended with opposition, the point directed at the target. 2. The weight is shifted from the left to the right leg, and the left foot is brought up to a position slightly in front of the right foot. 3. From this position, the arm and shoulder stretch out as far as they will go, the body inclines forward until it is almost off-balance, and the distance is closed with a rush, preventing the opponent from riposting.

OBS

The "flèche" is an attack made by running, rather than a step or a lunge; the action is stopped when one fencer passes another.

OBS

By definition, a "fleche" is a "running attack" or an attack with a flèche, or "flèche attack". These last expressions are thus explanations of "flèche" rather than synonyms.

Why would people want to read a book on CD-ROM ? ... My answer is, "I don’t know -- I prefer books, myself." So why did I do a CD-ROM? Two reasons: The first is exploratory, the second pedagogic. The first reason is that I feel a strong obligation to try to produce, use, and reflect upon all new technologies. ... But the second reason is more interesting. There are many things one can do with a CD-ROM book that are impossible with a regular book. For example, little demos, video asides, and active interaction.

CONT

A CD book is a computerized version of a paper book. It has a cover, you open it, turn the pages, go back and forward and at the end has a back cover. Unlike a regular book though, it can contain links. A link lets you jump right to the topic page that you are looking for, such as a chapter page or subject page. This type of book can also play music or other sounds while you read. A neat feature is that a CD book can also contain videos, something a paper book could never do. If you find an interesting topic or page, you can also send this subject to your printer and have a hard copy for reference(like having an instant copy machine).

OBS

Owners retain the right to decline an offer in case the ship should be fixed for other business prior to receipt of the offer being made. In effect, it is not an offer, since the charterer cannot go forward with the sale of its cargo. It does serve as a guide to what the owners would be willing to accept in the way of freight and conditions, provided they are not committed elsewhere.

OBS

DEF

In a phase space, the set of initial conditions giving rise to trajectories converging towards the attractor.

CONT

Scientists began to apply formalisms of chaos to research in artificial intelligence. The dynamics of systems wandering between basins of attraction appealed to those looking for a way to model symbols and memories. A physicist thinking of "ideas" as regions with fuzzy boundaries, separate yet overlapping, pulling like magnets and yet letting go, would naturally turn to the image of a phase-space with basins of attraction. Such models seem to have the right features : points of stability mixed with instability, and regions with changeable boundaries. Their fractal structure offers the kind of infinitely self-referential quality that seems so central to the mind's ability to bloom with ideas, decisions, emotions, and all other artifacts of consciousness.

Même si l'attracteur est un objet d'apparence géométrique simple, son bassin peut avoir une forme très complexe.
