Weight-driven clocks, as the name suggests, are mechanical clocks powered by falling weights that hang on a chain or cable. With the aid of gravity, the weights are pulled down slowly, typically in a period of 7 days. After which, the weights go back up. This play requires the receiver to run a couple of steps downfield, then turn and run parallel to the line of scrimmage towards the center of the field. The drag pattern is used in the West Coast offense a lot, allowing receivers to catch the ball safely and then run after the catch. Affiliate marketing involves a company that recruits affiliates to sell its products or services online. When affiliates sign up at the provider's website, they are provided with a specific link to that website. When visitors to the affiliate's site click on the advertisements and go to the advertiser's site, the affiliate may receive a commission if that click leads to a sale. Rusty tussock moth.... Larvae attack all conifer seedling species.... These gregarious caterpillars completely denude a seedling before moving on to the next, and can occur in patches of 5-100 styroblocks.... The adult male is rusty-brown with a white dot and light brown band on each forewing. The female is flightless, sedentary, with light tan hairs covering the body. The population overwinters as white egg masses which can be cemented to the sides and bottoms of styroblocks. They will adhere to the blocks after seedlings have been lifted and blocks washed and stored. Because the eggs are white, they often go unnoticed. Larvae emerge from these egg masses(often on styroblocks) around May, and actively feed on newly emerged seedlings. They are hairy, up to 28 mm long, have two black hair "pencils" projecting forward and one to the rear, four golden brushes of hair on the back, accompanied by eight warty protuberances with yellow and black hairs on each segment. 4, record 21, English, - rusty%20tussock%20moth

Halloween is celebrated on October 31st in Canada. Halloween is a favorite family celebration-a time for traditions such as dressing in costumes, trick-or-treating around the neighbourhood, and carving pumpkins. Children dress up in funny or scary costumes and go "trick or treating, "and neighbours are expected to respond by giving them small treats. Adults may also dress in costume for Halloween parties. Halloween(the evening before All Saints or All Hallows Day) is a secular celebration based on ancient Druid customs dating back to 700 B. C. The Druids, a Celtic religious order in ancient Britain, Ireland and France, believed that the souls of the dead returned to mingle with the living on "hallowed eve, "October 31. Each year on that night, the Druids would make bonfires and offer sacrifices of crops and animals, and individuals would dress in costumes to disguise themselves from these spirits. 1, record 28, English, - Halloween

3, record 28, French, - Halloween

In the bottleshop of a brewery, returned empty bottles go through washers in which they receive a thorough cleaning. After washing, the bottles are inspected electronically and visually, and pass on to the rotary filler. Some of these machines can fill up to 1, 200 bottles per minute. A "crowning" machine integrated with the filler, places caps on the bottles. The filled bottles may then pass through a "tunnel" pasteurizer-often 75 feet from end to end and able to hold 15, 000 bottles-where the temperature of the beer is raised about 60 degrees Celsius for a sufficient length of time to provide biological stability, then cooled to room temperature. 2, record 29, English, - tunnel%20pasteuriser

The flèche is a running attack executed in the following manner : 1. The arm is extended with opposition, the point directed at the target. 2. The weight is shifted from the left to the right leg, and the left foot is brought up to a position slightly in front of the right foot. 3. From this position, the arm and shoulder stretch out as far as they will go, the body inclines forward until it is almost off-balance, and the distance is closed with a rush, preventing the opponent from riposting. 5, record 32, English, - fl%C3%A8che

A shot is the combination of a stroke and the situation in which it is used. 3, record 33, English, - shot
Record number: 33, Textual support number: 1 OBS
"Long" is an informal expression used to indicate that a shot went out past the baseline. Important nuance: a "stroke" implies early preparation and a complete follow through. If one were to envision a stroke, one would see a series of sequences, ending with a "shot", i.e. the result of all of the above. Consequently, a "shot" is the result of the "stroke". "Shot" implies a quick, sharp movement because one is focusing on the end result, not the series of sequences leading up to it. A "blow" is rather an imprecise, general term similar in meaning to "shot". Although many would like to maintain these nuances in English, "shot" and "stroke" are often used synonymously. "Blow" is used only rarely. Note, however that although there are two possible equivalents ("coup" and "frappe") in French, neither are semantically identical to the English offerings. The Spanish term "pegada" works well as an equivalent for "shot", although technically the term more specifically refers to the actual hitting action caused by the racket coming in contact with the ball, and not to the end result [cause vs effect]. 2, record 33, English, - shot

... Assystem City Car... is remarkably easy to park, and not only because of its compact dimensions(3. 60 m long, 1. 60 m wide and 1. 60 m tall), or its light weight(only 600 kg), but also because it has three axles, a central one, with two wheels, and one wheel in each extreme of the car(front and end). These single wheel axles are the ones responsible for moving and turning the Assystem City Car. The front wheel is powered by an electrical engine with 20 kW(about 27 cv), which can push the car to 50 km/h of top speed and has 30 km of autonomy, basically what regular people need to go to work and back home every day. For the roads, there is a little combustion engine that delivers 60 cv in the rear axle. It can lead the vehicle to a top speed of 130 km/h and, with its 30 l fuel tank, can carry the Assystem City Car to up to 600 km. Both engines can be used together, what turns this car into a hybrid. This vehicle, albeit small, can carry up to five people and their luggage. It has a low gravity center, what enhances dynamics, its oval shape prevents serious accident consequences and, when visibility is low, a screen takes the place of the regular windshield and shows the driver infrared images of the road, guiding him/her safely to destination. 1, record 36, English, - Assystem%20City%20Car

Merger and Acquisition Arbitrage. The most common type of risk arbitrage is the price inequalities that is created when a merger or acquisition is announced. Typically when this happens, the acquiring company's stock price usually drops in case the deal doesn’t go through, while the stock price of the company being acquired shoots up close to the offered price(usually at a significant premium to the current traded price). It is interesting to note(and the key to profiting from it) that while the stock price of the acquired company rises, it will never reach the full offered price because there is always a risk of the deal not happening. Therefore, we can take advantage of this by buying stock of the acquired company and as the deal becomes more likely, the stock will rise. 1, record 41, English, - merger%20and%20acquisition%20arbitrage

When wheat is milled into flour some of the starch granules in the endosperm are broken. This damaged starch absorbs much more water than the undamaged granules. If too little damaged starch is in the flour, it will be difficult to mix normal to high-hydration doughs. If there is too much, the flour will exhibit high absorption, but the loaf may flatten at the end of proofing as the excess water is released. In between these extremes, as damages starch increases, absorption will go up, but at the expense of extensibility and overall dough strength. 2, record 48, English, - damaged%20starch

Info diète. [...] Breaking takes between 4 and 6 weeks, though longer may be required if horses have had little handling. All horses here basically go through the same breaking program, regardless of their final intended use. Your horse is tied up to the tie-up-poles, where there is minimal risk of injury if he pulls back. In the round-pen, he will be hobbled, bridled, and saddled. He will be lunged with a saddle on, carrying the bit but no reins. Next, he will de driven(long reined). This starts to develop steering on the horse, stopping and backing up. Fresh powder snow soon becomes "skied out", or "tracked out". This is sometimes known as "crud"(although this term is also used for breakable crust)... The problem is that the fresh snow is now packed down in some areas, and piled up in others. So the amount of resistance that your skis encounter is always changing. You need to constantly look ahead and anticipate this. When you’re about to go through a deep pile, push your feet forward slightly. For the firmer sections, stand more in the middle of the ski. Rather than persisting with the short, bouncy turns of true powder, you will be better served in crud by longer, rounder, carved arcs. 2, record 64, English, - crud

The DC motor can be made to run faster than the basic "balancing speed" achieved whilst in the full parallel configuration without any resistance in circuit. This is done by "field shunting". An additional circuit is provided in the motor field to weaken the current flowing through the field. The weakening is achieved by placing a resistance in parallel with the field. This has the effect of forcing the armature to speed up to restore the balance between its magnetic filed and that being produced in the field coils. It makes the train go faster. 2, record 70, English, - field%20shunting

1, record 70, French, - shuntage%20par%20d%C3%A9rivation

Later, candles were used by everyone for light and later again oil-lamps were used. A variety of beautiful brass lamps with decorative globes were sold for use in parlours, bedrooms and kitchens. For outdoor use and in sheds, less decorative lamps were used. The storm lamp, which had a closed globe, was useful on dark nights when farmers needed to go around the farm checking on livestock. Electricity was practically unheard of in the early 20th century but this changed with the setting up of the E. S. B. in 1927. 1, record 76, English, - storm%20lamp

Wharton is a powerful symbol of where our country went wrong in the 1980s. It was here at Wharton that Michael Milken got the idea to use junk bonds to leverage corporate buyouts--a quick-buck scheme that was supposed to shake up failed management but too often forced corporations to lay off workers in formerly profitable plants, reduce R&D, and ultimately to go bankrupt or sell out again under the crushing burden of unserviceable debt. 2, record 78, English, - unserviceable%20debt

Total Third World debt is in the hundreds of billions, piled up under the auspices of the World Bank and sister agencies when they were attempting to impose their brand of global statism on any country desperate or corrupt enough to accept the money. The majority of these loans are unlikely to be repaid, especially those to the poorest nations. This creates a problem for the people who run the World Bank, a band of bureaucrats who for years claimed that their lending practices were sound and that their loan default rates were low. What the loans did, aside from provide tax-free employment opportunities for thousands of World Bank credit officers, was create scores of nations with large, unserviceable debt burdens. 3, record 78, English, - unserviceable%20debt

Trucking has always been the mode of choice for shipping refrigerated product. But with recent developments in technology, the railways are becoming more confident they can measure up as a viable service alternative... A few weeks ago, US-based Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway(BNSF), ran its first all-refrigerated train from Illinois to California. It carried frozen product at a constant temperature for the entire 69-hour trip. There were no re-fuelling stops and so far, no cases of food spoilage... When you put a trailer on a train, there's nobody really looking after it, so if loads go bad or(the units) run out of fuel they don’t notice until it's too late. The difference with the BNSF service is the whole train is refrigerated and therefore gets constant attention. 1, record 79, English, - refrigerated%20train

Truly rare quality Canadian coins are very infrequently offered or sold. In many cases, rare coins may appear only once every few years of possibly only once every major coin cycle(5-8 years). The last sale of such an item may be meaningless as an aid to repricing such a coin in a "new" market. "Trends" for such coins are non-existant. Such coins are usually priced by relating them to other similar coins of comparable rarity and using historical relationships of pricing between the two to arrive at a "fair" asking price. In the end the price will be what a willing buyer will pay a willing seller. Considerable research may go in to pricing such coins, certainly more than looking them up in a Trends List. 1, record 89, English, - pricing%20rare%20coins

Video produced in 1994 by Sneyd Syndicate Inc., Orillia, Ontario. This touching drama describes how a little boy is affected by witnessing his father beating his mother. Seven-year-old Jonathan is having trouble at school. He has a quick temper, a short attention span and he is reluctant to tell anyone what's troubling him. A black-eyed Susan in a bouquet of flowers reminds him of his mother's black eye and his father's violence, so Jonathan refuses to go home. When his mother comes to pick him up, the abuse is revealed, and Jonathan's family gets the help they need.
