A contest of basic cowboy skills that is indigenous to the ranges of the Western United States and Canada. 2, record 1, English, - rodeo
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 OBS
The term "rodeo" comes from a Spanish word meaning "roundup", and the sport developed from the natural competitive urges of cowboys involved in mass roundups on the western plains. The principal events of rodeos today are bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback [bronc] riding, calf roping, and steer wrestling, with steer roping and team roping contests often added to the list. Many rodeos add some other popular events such as barrel riding(a slalom-like race for women on horseback around a number of barrels), wild-horse racing, and wild-cow milking contests essentially for the amusement of the audiences. Organized rodeos go back to the 19th century; the principal feature of Buffalo Bill Cody's famous Wild West show, which began in 1883, was the rodeo. 2, record 1, English, - rodeo

Bell Atlantic and US West are building separate electronic highways, for example, even as the two firms are allied in a project to provide wireless phone service. Time Warner and TCI are archrivals, yet they have teamed with Sega of America to form the Sega Channel, which could go out over the companies’ superhighways. Entanglements like these have given rise to a new term : coopetition. Notes communications consultant Jeffrey Kagan :"It can be very difficult to share secrets with a partner and keep them away from a competitor when they’re one and the same company. An interruption of the normal west-to-east flow at middle and high latitudes. 2, record 4, English, - blocking%20situation
Record number: 4, Textual support number: 1 OBS
It [blocking pattern] persists from one to several weeks.... there are three kinds of blocks :... a high-over-low block in which the flow splits, one branch taking a poleward excursion and the other branch an equatorward excursion. Any traveling storms that approach the block from the west, tend to weaken and go either over the ridge(top of the block) or pass through the trough on the south side.... An "omega" block so named because the flow about this block resembles the Greek letter "Omega". Cyclonic(counterclockwise) circulations can occur both southwest and southeast of the block(where low pressure is indicated on the diagram), and the weather near them can be stormy. Within the block, however, the weather is benign and warmer than normal.... A stationary high-amplitude ridge. Such a ridge often forms just off the West Coast of North America in winter. If it persists, it steers Pacific storms far to the north and keeps the weather in British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest anomalously dry and mild. 2, record 4, English, - blocking%20situation
