Record 2 2011-05-09

English

Subject field(s)
  • Horse Racing and Equestrian Sports
DEF

Strap strung inside shafts of sulky to keep the horse swinging the rear end to the right and left and traveling sideways on its gait.

CONT

Gaiting straps are put on a horse to keep his rear end in line. I’ve put them on trotters on both sides. Sometimes they’ll throw their feet out pretty wide into a wheel or the sulky, particularly on a half-mile track where they’re going at a terrific clip around the turns. A lot of good horses that I’ve raced had to wear gaiting straps over a half-mile track. A gaiting strap catches them up along the stifle and keeps them from throwing their foot out.

OBS

A term used in harness racing.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Courses hippiques et sports équestres
OBS

Terme appartenant aux courses attelées.

OBS

Record 4 2003-05-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • General Conduct of Military Operations
  • Management Control
CONT

The need for valid tests of complex operational aptitude is increasing as the explosion in information technology and associated automation makes more complex operations possible and the cost of placing the wrong person in charge greater than ever. Increasing the information available gives the operator more to attend to, and automation makes it all the more important and difficult to keep track of everything that is going on and decide when some intervention is critical. This is now called situational awareness, and in the case of crew operations, we call it team resource management.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Conduite générale des opérations militaires
  • Contrôle de gestion
CONT
