Heap leaching is often the most cost-effective way to extract value from gold or copper ores. Heap leaching involves placing ore-grade material on an impermeable liner foundation with a solution collection system of drainpipes and irrigating the surface with either cyanide solution(for gold) or acid(for copper). Within the heap, chemical reactions occur which liberate the payable metal from the rock. The resultant solution, called pregnant leach solution(PLS), reaches the liner and the collection pipes, and then reports to a storage facility(pond) for processing where the metal is removed, the solution conditioned, and re-applied to the HLP [heap leach pad] as barren leach solution(BLS). 1, record 4, English, - barren%20leach%20solution

Pooled analysis, considered the gold standard for synthesizing results from multiple studies, allows for comparison across different metrics and studies, free of artifacts introduced by analytical differences, and for derivation of statistically more stable results... Pooled analysis uses raw data from the component studies and thus can apply identical analyses to all included studies. The choices of, for example, cut points, reference groups, and metrics in a pooled analysis may differ from the choices made in the original studies and may result in changes in the study-specific effect estimates. In Alaska and Canada there are apparently many criteria that can be used to establish when a newcomer has surpassed the status of Cheechako, and the most popular one seems to be the Cheechako's witnessing both the freezing of the rivers in the fall and, after the long winter, their break-up in the spring. 2, record 33, English, - Cheechako

This chemical sensing technique relies on nanoparticles consisting of gold and silica called nanoshells, invented 10 years ago at Rice by nanophotonics pioneer Naomi Halas. Nanoshells are about 20 times smaller than a red blood cell, and they can amplify light waves and focus them so tightly that scientists can use them to detect just a few molecules of a target chemical. Building catalysts directly on the surface of the nanoparticles themselves allows researchers to use the nanosensing capabilities of nanoshells to directly follow chemical reactions on the catalyst using light. 8, record 97, English, - gold%20nanoshell

3, record 98, French, - nanoparticule%20d%27or
