GOLD CONCENTRATION [5 records]

Record 1 2007-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Gold and Silver Mining
CONT

Gold is the most important placer mineral... Gold placers as a rule are easily discovered and worked... Gold placers may be formed by rapid erosion of hard rocks, but such placers are not often rich and highly concentrated. In the great placer regions the concentration has generally been preceded by an epoch of deep secular decay of the surface... When the outcrops of gold-bearing veins are decomposed a gradual concentration of the gold follows, either directly over the primary deposits or on the gentle slopes immediately below.

CONT

Placer gold deposit of the Klondike.

OBS

Gold placers commonly occur in stream gravels in uplifted, unglaciated areas containing primary, auriferous source rocks.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mines d'or et d'argent
DEF

Record 2 2007-01-12

English

Subject field(s)
  • Economic Geology
  • Metals Mining
DEF

The areas of concentration of gold in placer deposits.

CONT

Mine workings are centered on "paystreaks" that radiate out from fan apices. Some paystreaks can be followed for more than 10 km.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Géologie économique
  • Mines métalliques
CONT

Record 3 2006-08-18

English

Subject field(s)
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
CONT

Hydraulic sorting of detrital grains.

CONT

Extremely fine gold particles are more readily transported, and their concentration(or dissemination) in the fluvial or littoral environment is determined by hydraulic sorting(flow separation), which is dependent on such factors as the size, shape, and specific gravity of individual grains in the sediment load, the velocity and degree of turbulence of water flow, and the nature of the stream bed...

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des fluides et hydraulique (Physique)
CONT

Tri hydraulique des grains détritiques.

CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Coins and Bank Notes
  • Numismatics
  • Coining
DEF

The copper coloured spots that sometimes appear on gold coins. These spots reflect the fact that the gold alloy(gold, copper) is not completely homogenous at the point where the spot is located and that a concentration of copper("bleeding") has surfaced.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Analytical Chemistry
DEF

A vibrating condenser formed from two dissimilar metals, one of which is gold plated and coated with calcium palmitate, is used as the basis of this type of detection; the surface potential between the plates is modified by any changes in the gas composition and this leads to corresponding changes in the e. m. f., giving a signal proportional to the concentration.
